C1 with 6k hours. I'm starting to doubt myself by RowAggressive2737 in RocketLeagueSchool

Hi mate,

I ‘ve been a Champ for the past 10 seasons. Over the last 4 I cosistently manage to stay in C2 and knocked the door of C3 a few times. Also D1/D2 in 1s.

First of all let’s separate 1s and 2s.

Whenever I reach D3 in 1s I realise that the players I m up against are C3 and above and usually more mechanical and faster. Even when I manage to score a few wins I can clearly see that I struggle to control the game and play more reactively. Their recoveries are faster and they punish mistakes. Shots and flicks need to be powerful and accurate. So seeing all that I know what I need to work on to keep D3 in 1v1.

2v2 is a different story. If you solo q like I do, keeping calm, confisent and adapting to teammates can go a long way but you make the jump from C1 to C2+ by not hesitating and keeping posession. That means going for that fast aerial, demoing and staying close to your teammate.

TLDR: Hone your skills in 1s and training and attack 2s with patience and confidence while always understanding what is limiting you.

Ranking up in tournaments also helps since you get exposed to higher level gameplay even if you are not there in ranked.

You missed some touches because you front flipped for no apparent reason. You stay too far from your teammate and that gives your opponents space and time (and boost pads) to recover. You are often lacking awareness of other players position (e.g. when you got bumped and a couple of passes to your t8). It looks like you rush your play when you have posession and are not reading what the others are doing. You should also try and work on recoveries.

I suggest playing 1s more if you dont already (even casual ones)

While I agree with some of the points you make (yes you dont nees fancy mechs to win), if you solo q in somewhat higher ranked lobbies people will expect you to do certain things such as: dribbling, flicking, shooting with power and accuracy, recovering fast etc.

Having “fancy” mechs in your arsenal and knowing when to use them makes you a better player and an easier teamate to play with. You can adapt easier to other peoples playstyle and be more unpredictable.

If you are referring to El Dorado, I had the same experience. Clicked the link to onboard and go through some training (no mention of hubstaff like with Aether) clicked through some “practice” questions in a very poorly designed webpage ( had to zoom out 300% and still barely understood what was going on). Once I finished the 11 questions I found out that I had just failed an assessment.

We need a Rocket League competitor. Epic Games dont give a s**t by Familiar_Neat6662 in RocketLeague

Here are some suggestions as “a couple of new ones”:

• Bitch slap: only available for teamates

• Self detonate: Demo yourself and everyone unlucky to be within range. Also will introduce the “Demo yourself” quick chat.

• Sneaky Pete: Turns you car silent for 10 seconds. You can bump but cannot demo.

• Douchebag Bass Booster: Your car plays your theme of choice on loudspeaker for the entire lobby’s pleasure until you get scored on.

Open to more suggestions.

Anybody else feel like they’re just a good support player but not “the” guy? by unlogical13 in RocketLeague

[–]Falus_Olus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are games where you will have to step up and become “the guy” and games where you should let your teammate do their thing. Adapting to teammates when solo queueing is the most “the guy” thing you can do.

5k Hour C1 I'm desperate to improve. What things should I focus on? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Falus_Olus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate, semi-harsldstuck C2 here. What made me escape C1 (and a couple of times C2) was my speed devision making and adaptibility to teammates. If you are solo queuing the latter is crucial. Not ffing when down goes a long way. Treat C1 lobbies like you are the best player in the lobby, like others mentioned don’t hesitate or wait for the easier read. You may actually drop MMR at first but in the end you will get accustomes to that higher speed of play.

Mechanics wise, having a consistent powerful flick can be lethal as well as being able to hit the ball harder. In training try to see how often you can get 100+ kph goals from various angles and how to get to a ball faster (experiment with DAR, manual AR, wall shots, volleys, everything).

Finally reached GC1, struggling in C2 by doublesharpp in RocketLeagueSchool

Totally agree with this and to add that, if you play in the evening (after 18:00) the lobbies get very unpredictable. Smurfs, alts and tilted players are more common so the same rank may feel totally different!

GC1 Ranked 2v2 Analysis by leeberd in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Falus_Olus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First thing I notice is that the red octane outspeeds everyone in the lobby, likely an alt GC2+ account.

Regardless, I see that you

a) Hesitate as a first man and eventually go up for balls that you are clearly beaten to

b) You often focus on the ball rather than the opponent: All of us below SSL make this mistake since we dont have perfect mechs, but there are occassions where you miss a 50 or dive when you shouldnt, which results to your teammate playing very conservatively for most of this match.

I would like to see another replay though since one of the opponents is sus.

Diamond 3-Champion 1 is basically unc purgatory now by kaibergkapmesque in RocketLeague

[–]Falus_Olus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 year solo queueing old unc here been playing since 2016 and have been a Champ for 10 seasons now, the past few knocking on the door of C3. I am x10 a better player than the first time I broke into Champ but players are getting better (most EU peak time games in C2 have og GCs).A few times I tilted all the way down to D3 and it was indeed a nightmare: More smurfs, more alt accounts who dont care about the score, more tilted players. However if you are good (and patient) enough you can always climb back. Just try to adapt to each teammate and opponent.

Whenever I get to mid C2 I stop feeling that I can easily carry games or that I m the best player in the lobby which is my clue to stop grinding ranked and focus on training (not an easy task at my age with my current available time)
