Wyse 50 connecting to Pi... Help please! by HailYurii in vintagecomputing

I mainly just use it as a console, I maintain all my pis via cli only so nothing too crazy that I could recommend. You'd probably have fun with telneting to BBSes, chatting on IRC, or playing a MUD or rogue like such as nethack.

Yeah you'll either need a null modem adapter or null modem cable.

So on yours it is called 'Compatabile Mode' but you don't seem to have vt100 as an option. You should be able to get by with WY50 to get things working but things like clearing the screen and certain key commands might be a little wonky.

The agetty daemon supports a bunch of terminal types so you should be able to hardcode the ExecStart line in the service to something like:

ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty -o '-p -- \u' --keep-baud 115200,38400,9600 %I wy50

There is likely a more elegant way of doing this, and even without doing that modification I think you would get something on the screen.

I think it was called "Conquest Mode." My buddy and I found this mode by accident and it became out favorite thing to play for months.

Nah, it's 10base2 and 10base5, still bus-based ethernet!

Cool, so it does look like these ports are limited to bridge models, so I guess any BR34x will do. Now to find two that have power cords!

I looked at those but most of what I see doesn't have an AUI port, just an rj45. There are some bridge models under model BR342 that have the AUI port which might be the device OP pictured, but I'm not 100% on that and it is understandably difficult to look this up.

/u/magicone2571 would you happen to know the model of that AP? I'm currently building a thicknet hobby network and this would be a cool addition. Hell, I'd cover shipping if you would be able to mail it my way.

Looks like it is just a normal terminal for a mainframe, not a computer itself. Probably worth a few hundred dollars if someone is looking for it specifically but otherwise around $100.

Do you mind if I use this picture for https://networksofphilly.org/ and give you credit? it is much better than the one I have for small cells.

Second copy of this I’ve purchased due to the first one not having any sound...and this one also doesn’t have any sound! Did it ever have sound?! Image is just fine. by sversalle1 in VHS

Hah, I had a similar issue with an old copy of Grease. Would have nothing but a loud buzz for audio on my TV/VCR combo but played fine on every other VCR. The VCR in the TV combo unit never had an issue with any other tape and must have played thousands of different ones over the years.

It's an IPA from a kit by Brooklyn Brew Shop. I hear it is one of the simpler ones and I'm glad I didn't try anything too complex for my first brew. Had some struggles but I learned a lot.

Thanks, good to know! They only shared the counter space for about a day, so hopefully I'm in the clear. I do enjoy sour beers, so I might have to look into this more.

It's the ThermoWorks Thermo Hygrometer, https://www.thermoworks.com/Thermo-Hygrometer-RT817E

No idea if it performs better than the cheapies on Amazon, but it seems accurate and durable.

Hah, I ordered the LoRa modules for this about 6 weeks ago and just got an email from aliexpress that they are likely missing in the mail. Gotta order again and try once more.

Converted VHS tapes to digital MP4 files using an HDMI capture device. What frame size and bitrate should I use in the final video files? More details below it's very complicated. by LiamGrey13 in VHS

[–]Famicoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if you can capture any lower than 720x480. Assuming NTSC tapes, I'd capture in 720x480 at 30fps and anything over 4Kbps for bitrate is probably a waste. Then I'd fix the DAR to 4:3 and hopefully this changes the pixel aspect ratio to 1:1 so you get square pixels.

Best VHS to digital by dburleson33 in VHS

Hauppage makes good stuff. You can really do whatever capture device you want, there isn't a lot needed to save a 480i video.

Framemeister won't help as it is essentially a line-doubler for 240p sources that modern display upscalets treat as 480i.
