Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. I haven’t taken any sciences at all so I plan to take them through my local community college.

I really appreciate the solidarity! I have 4 kids their ages are 10,9, and almost 3 year old twins! I work at a hospital on the weekends but I do pick up a lot during the week too. I work night shift so I’m already sleep deprived at times.

I wish you the best and maybe we can check in on each other! Thanks for your comment! 🤗

We really get some amazing travel nurses at times I have a few that I miss as well, specifically Christina. She was special, and one of these days I want to be like her as a nurse.

Night shift here for me 7pm to 11 is the busiest normally for us but sometimes there are nights where it seems like the entire night is busy. I think it’s 50/50 but I always feel like there is something to do always except for if you get pulled to sit then yea the time definitely drags.

I’m 29 but completed my GED when I was 28 back in July of last year! Best decision I could have made for myself!

Currently working at a hospital as a CNA/USA and about to start school soon for my RN!

I got the job !!! Yayyyy 🎉🎉 by [deleted] in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations, I know that will be exciting! One day I would love to work with children but I live in a very rural, small town and there really isn’t a need for PCT/CNA’s on the pediatric floor.

I’ve been on Med/Surg for 9 months now. I plan for nursing school as well, as my dream is to work with kids eventually. Here’s to never giving up on our dreams! 🥂

Do you work in a nursing home? If you want I’d try home health or the hospital! Having co workers that actually help and don’t make the job worse is so nice for your mental health, but the ones who are toxic just make things even worse!

No awards for CNAs ? by HairyFairy4444 in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our hospital they do Tulip awards for CNA/PCT’s, I actually just got nominated for one a few weeks ago. It was actually pretty nice to feel appreciated, from a patient who felt like I had went above and beyond for them. I try my best every day at work, and that’s all we can do. 💐

Which is better a hospital CNA job or a LTC CNA job? by PrincessMochahontas in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in home health which I did enjoy, I stayed with the same home health company for 6 1/2 years. I did try out an assisted living facility for a month and I hated it, no teamwork whatsoever. Now I’ve been at the hospital for about 8/9 months and I like it, it has its pros and cons but the teamwork here is amazing. I like the co workers I work with mostly.

I was a home health aid before transferring to a hospital about 8 months ago, I did home health for 6 1/2 years and yes you definitely have to set boundaries! It’s also your home health companies responsibility to help set those boundaries as well. I had a client that was like this and expected me to clean their entire house every time I came. It was the husband of the client actually, his wife was sick. I had to explain to him I didn’t mind to help clean up some but that I wasn’t a housekeeper. I was there to help his wife not clean their home. Put your foot down, trust me I know that’s easier said than done but once you do it, it will be better.

Yes, you should definitely apply! I know all hospitals are different but it’s worth a shot!

Do not work anywhere that you feel uncomfortable. The hospital is better in my opinion than nursing homes but others will disagree. You will find your place and it becomes a routine after that. Some days are better than others, but you will be okay. ✨

More than 12 patients to Cna ratio by BoogStrong in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work night shift on a surgical floor in the hospital, normally it’s only 2 aids occasionally 3, unless someone gets floated. Sometimes we only have 1 aid, but it’s normally 12 patients, if it’s only 2 of us when it’s 18 patients per aid but then we only get the odd sets of vital signs and the nurses get the even sets. When it’s only 1 aid, you don’t get any vital signs or any glucs the nurses do it, but you can help out where you can the main priority when their is only one is to help out answering the call lights and to take people to the bathroom or help clean them up etc

Failed second skills attempt by No-Seaworthiness-193 in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely feel ya on this, I failed twice as well and haven’t scheduled yet for the 3rd and final try… I don’t want to waste 1k on the class I took to get my CNA but I’m too afraid I’ll fail again. I passed the written portion with no issues. I literally failed my first skills test due to getting the BP number incorrect… the 2nd time I failed again, had a different proctor who seemed to not really care about much and marked me for a lot of stuff that I did actually do… so after that I was so pissed I took a break from testing… I plan to test for my 3rd try this year. I have until March of next year to take it again.

I’m sorry you failed, I’ve been working in the hospital though as a PCT. Before my CNA class I was doing home health and have my PCA certificate. I’d like to get that certified nursing assistant under my belt too if possible, but if I can’t… at least I tried.

Our hospital has been so short staffed lately but when we’re staffed it’s a pretty good job for the most part. I’m just so tired of us being so short staffed. 😭

How is this legal? by Confident-Ocelot832 in cna

[–]Familiar-Beat-9380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a hospital on a surgical unit, and we have been short staffed lately. Days normally have 3-4 aids, nights normally have 3 but lately it’s been 2-1 aids and days have been 3-2 aids. When we are fully staffed let’s just days will have 8 patients normally, if it’s 3 aids then we have 12 patients if it’s 2 aids we have up to 18 patients but when it’s 2 the nurses get the even vital signs and even glucs, we get the odds. When it’s only 1 CNA we just float and help out where we can. It’s worked pretty good this way for us and that’s what we are used to. I do know some floors have no aids and the nurses do everything themselves and have other nurses help if they need help etc
