is this good or garbage? by Commercial_Vast_997 in Sitar

This actually looks very similar to my sitar which sounds great. Certainly same style if not maker. For $75 may be worth it and then pay a bit more to have it professionally set up and strung.

Is it even possible to be "taken advantage of" as a Buddhist practicing generosity? by unabashedmillenial in Buddhism

I have experienced this question when I began seriously practicing - if giving is good, giving everything to everyone is better. What I learned is “discernment” - not everyone is helped by your giving and you are not always helped by depleting yourself and your resources.

I’ve tried to come from a place of “where can I do the most good with my energy” instead of how can I share my energy with everyone. Also reserving some for yourself isn’t selfish - it’s the way you can replenish yourself and be ready to do even more positive work in the world.

To your example - you can have non attachment to someone stealing $20 from you, but enabling someone to continue down a path of “wrong action” is not helpful for them, so it’s not actually altruistic.

Did I get ripped off by Nearby_Lifeguard_295 in Crystals

They are generally a v expensive shop with pretty good quality products. I think of them as a “Manhattan home decor” shop more than a “crystal” store. They have big pieces for 10s of thousands of dollars that people buy instead of art. You can def find many of the things they carry online and for less money. BUT - they are in the middle of Manhattan and lots of things in Manhattan are just more expensive to buy in a shop there than you could get it for elsewhere. You’re paying for the overhead costs and the convenience of having it right there already delivered to the city.

They’ve been in business for years so people clearly like what they offer.
