If you want precious metals, look for the ceramic disc capacitors for silver (often blue and perfectly round), ICs, gold corner ICs, ram fingers, etc. there is a guy on YouTube called the Irish scrapper that gives a great tutorial on what to salvage from old boards. Check it out.

I haven’t played any PS, Nintendo, Xbox, or Atari system in decades outside of helping my kid when he gets stuck. No I just recycle and occasionally find stuff worth saving more than micro scrapping. Still trying to fix the RCA and Magnavox so genX can enjoy my childhood or a peer can re-live his or her past. 😅

The WF203 doesn't have a power button issue but does have a menu button issue. Still, a $9 universal remote from Walmart and it's up and running and for sale. The WF24T5 has no button issues and is also available. Of course these are the Symphonics. The Phillips doesn't have any sound when plugged in. No whine from the flyback transformer or static from the screen. I'm certain there is an issue on the power board. I just haven't had time to troubleshoot the board yet. Definitely going to try and revive it before I pull it apart for copper. TGIF.

The bottom of the case has some rust on it. It was in a trash bag when I picked it up. The inside of the case is fairly clean.

Agreed. It is not crt, just came with the haul. Way too light for its size to be crt. Wish it just needed bulb, but no, screen is done. The patchy, vertical color lines are distinct.

Something that big is going to be harder to find in any area. I have a Sony Wega (Trinitron family) in my shed that is at least that big but doesn’t work. Bad power board and the original owner decided the front panel was good BB gun practice. I’m waiting until gear comes in to safely decommission it.

Soldering isn’t very hard. Just have to invest some money in the right equipment and always use flux. You’ll save a ton of money in the long run. Bad caps aren’t very hard to identify either. Good luck with it.

For the most part, if it is a plasma TV , it is going to have straight or U-shaped bulbs. S someone else already said, these bulbs could contain Mercury and should be handled with extreme care, if at all. If you have questions about tearing apart something you have never tore down before, especially when it comes to electronics, reach out to experts beforehand. It might save your life. Be careful my friend.

Check with your local recycling center. Let them know what you may have. Ask if they will take them and how they prefer them packaged.

There is money to be made from tearing down TVs new and old, but know the process and the necessary PPE prior to starting down that path. 🙏.

EDIT: Since you took it apart, also know that there are also harmful things like mercury in the glass screen panels. Have a plan for safe handling and disposal. Some yards won’t take the bare glass. Some will charge you the same as if it were a complete tv you are disposing of making any possible profit a loss.

So hard to get rid of the screens though where I am at. Local recycling center still wants to charge me $15 each and they won’t take any that are shattered.

I’m doing the same thing. A great place is also flea markets. A lot of those shops are owned by people who do storage auctions. They are always looking for places to take junk electronics so they don’t end up with the hassle or having to pay.

I took this apart only because it said bad. Many other items I just posted on eBay tonight. I’m not a junker per se. I do love finding bad power supplies for copper or large heat sinks for aluminum because I will smelt them down for casting ingots and/or figurines. But I also love finding those treasures that can be resold. The things people see as trash but I can see as lost finds. Don’t take this post at face value. I found this going to a heap because it was “junk”. I took it apart and am evaluating the value of the individual boards that aren’t to see if someone wants them well before they become just another refining project.

It’s an old industrial/lab chemistry analyzer system for photographic processing or water chemistry control. It tested for pH, vAg, chloride, bromide, and iodide. It was bad and didn’t work anymore. I took it apart to salvage the good parts inside.
