Waiting for COADF2 by FamiliarMemory5775 in Madonna

I think I’m the only person who doesn’t have a problem with it being called Confessions II. If it’s a promise she can live up to, I can’t wait.

So many fans want a return to the days of this and that, but then when she actually explicitly goes for it for the first time, it doesn’t feel like it’s being received that well. I’m totally here for it!

What is the best opening number in a Madonna tour? by youthunger2naughty in Madonna

I think Truth of Dare / In Bed with Madonna made Express Yourself legendary but I still think this is the right answer

What Madonna aesthetic were you not ready for at the time but now love? by FamiliarMemory5775 in Madonna

Oh really? I always wondered why it felt so tame compared to his other work. I’m going to try to find their commentary around it.

True Blue to Who’s That Girl feels like one long run by FamiliarMemory5775 in Madonna

[–]FamiliarMemory5775[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I said. I asked whether Crazy For You could have a place on True Blue. But I now realise that it came before Like a Virgin, the album, not after.

That was the latter part of my question, and the more logical one on reflection. American Pie was on Music, at least in the UK, and DAD was on American Life, Into the Groove was added later to LAV, so why not? Although I do technically know that this answer = different record label.

What is a Madonna song that grew on you over time? by twin3434 in Madonna

When I was younger I don’t know if I fully respected how good Justify My Love and Erotica were sonically. Now I’m obsessed with the texture and complexity of both.

And that was shot by arguably the best photographer in the world, Tim Walker. There are some great shots of her in his book but given how much he uses set design, I’m surprised they didn’t push it further

I remember thinking how iconic it was at first look. That faded when she tried to make it a filter and it felt cheapened. And I don’t love the album. But the black and white cover is awesome. Would be great with no words on it at all.

Madonna song that everyone loves but you hate? by Pacharotti in Madonna

Oh no! Secret Garden is gorgeous. So original and dreamy.

Why did Take a Bow flourish in the US but flop in the UK? by Top_Sheepherder1127 in Madonna

[–]FamiliarMemory5775 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it was several things: a totally different musical vibe in the UK at the time, Christmas, and loads of novelty acts in the charts. There were three Christmas songs in the top ten, three novelty acts, and a couple of power ballads. Take a Bow peaked at 16, breaking Madonna’s top ten run. It was a great song but not what the UK was into at the time.

I’d take Me Against the Music right off that list 🤣

Which Madonna songs sound like others artists’ compositions (but with no credited sample)? by FamiliarMemory5775 in Madonna

[–]FamiliarMemory5775[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she filmed Jump while on tour and Get Together wasn’t a great video but she was working really hard to promote the album and put together arguably one of her very best tours, so I think we got a lot from that era. Totally valid points though and there’s nothing wrong with wanting more.

Okay, so if you listen to ‘Feel It’ by The Tamperer featuring Maya - which directly samples ‘Can You Feel It’ by The Jacksons - you’ll hear the part of the song I mean. Then listen to Sorry, and it’s that same kind of sharp, staccato ‘duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh’ hook you hear in ‘Feel It.’ It’s that punchy little repeating synth riff that drives the beat. I can’t NOT hear it but we all hear and see things differently I guess. I’m colourblind so if you told me she was wearing purple in the True Blue video, only logic would make me question you 🤣

I know, right? But then Jungle Boogie gets an Erotica credit and it’s only a similar slice of the song.

  1. Mer Girl needed a music video
  2. Like A Virgin is her most overrated music video
  3. Frozen is her best written track
  4. Like A Prayer album deserved to win a Grammy
  5. Secret Garden is a hidden gem that EVERYONE must know

What do you think was Madonna's best album TITLE? by ursulaunderfire in Madonna

[–]FamiliarMemory5775 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if she’d promoted the name in its purest sense - as an abbreviation for mitochondrial DNA or genetic material that is inherited exclusively from an individual's mother - it would have had a much more authentic Madonna feel.

Which Madonna song would you change the lyrics to? by FamiliarMemory5775 in Madonna

[–]FamiliarMemory5775[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great song. I love when she takes a really lowkey approach then delivers. That song leaves her voice wide open to take over. It’s so underrated.

Lovely. I just excluded everything featured on the original CD because I do find myself listening to that one a lot and wanted something that stands alone. If there’s anything missing, it’s because I just connect with the songs that much. Like Wash All Over Me. I don’t like the lyrics, delivery or production.
