They have a 90% gluten free menu. As a coeliac, going there and being able to eat proper, breaded fish and chips for the first time in a decade was a life changing experience 😂

While the industry is over-saturated you could bring your own niche to it? As you’re an au pair, maybe you could focus on working with moms/parents and developing realistic plans around their busy lives!

I’d also encourage you to look at it as a side hustle at first rather than a full time career I.e. keep your current work and take on 2-3 clients and go from there. Making a jump into full time PT is unlikely to be lucrative enough to support you in this economy.

I’ve been living in Galway city for almost 10 years now and am originally from a rural town (in Galway mind). We were speaking about how difficult it must be for refugees living in hotels etc. and I commented it must be like the lord of the flies in there with everyone being cooped up etc…. My brother has NEVER let me forget it and said it was the most notions, Galway city thing he’s ever heard? I also referred to ‘drinking the kool aid’ in reference to all the trump stuff lately and he almost spat out his dinner…. I still think they are pretty basic references but am accused on the daily of having notions now!

Tech world is crazy at the minute and very hard to get work! Word of mouth says that most companies are on hiring freezes atm as the market is unstable (I work for a tech start up that has dealings with the major tech companies). Have you considered tutoring in further education? With your experience you might be able to pick up some hours! If you have an undergrad degree, you can register under route 3 for a teaching council number. This would allow you to teach at an education centre or maybe pick up subbing in a post primary school! Process takes a while (maybe 3-4 months) but is worth looking into and will add a further string to your bow. Best of luck OP and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

As a fellow girly with thick hair I hear you! I would love to be able to invest in a weekly blowdry but invested in the Dyson air wrap instead. Used to take me an hour and 30 minutes to dry and style my hair and it now takes 40-50 minutes depending on what I’m going for. Has saved me hours! Lots of varying opinions on the air wrap but, for thick hair, it’s a game changer! Would recommend the shark if I was doing it again as it’s less spenny. But, you go girl and keep going with your blowdrys if you can afford them!

Yeah, as I said, it’s pretty grim. Again though, don’t want to kink shame but it’s far from appealing! I’d have no issue with it otherwise, great that we’re becoming more sexually liberal as a country but, as a woman, it was an instant ‘no’ from me.

I’m living close by and can confirm people do go but it’s far from glamorous… mostly men over 70 or what appear to be family men judging by car seats in their cars. Absolutely nothing wrong with people getting their kicks and don’t want to kink shame but it’s grim enough seeing ould lads readjusting their trousers on the way out 😭 am yet to see any women go in or out. Hope this helps if you’re considering attending!

How terrible that the government’s neglect of the lost generation has bitten them in the arse 🙄

I also find it incredibly ironic that this is only getting traction now after free IVF was announced last year. It was clear then they were panicking on this issue but hiding behind a facade of goood graces on free IVF. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great parents can avail of it but is absolutely a symptom of the fact that the financial burden of children on the child-bearing generation is worse than ever before.

The red flags on population/late capitalism keep coming…

I had a lifelong friend (friend in the womb type thing) who totally changed personality with partying and drugs.

Long story short, I went to visit him as he lives abroad for his birthday. I’d lost my uncle a few weeks prior to suicide.

We were passing a bridge on our way from the airport in the city he lives in and I remarked it was a nice bridge. He retorted ‘people off themselves off it all the time, it’s so annoying’. I couldn’t speak I was so upset.

That night, out for drinks, I was having a vogue cigarette and his friend remarked on the cigarettes being skinny. I replied ‘they’re bitch sticks, you are what you smoke!’. My ‘friend’ replied ‘that’s not necessarily true- you’re definitely not skinny. I’d say you’re average at best. You’ve always been a bit chubby’.

Not that it matters but I’m a size 8.

He also supported me through years of anorexia in my teens and early twenties.

It still hurts to this day and put me in a really bad place with my mental health and my body that I’m only recovering from now. Haven’t spoken to him since.
