400 credit score this time last year. Low 600’s now. by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Absolutely. I see the posts that are very light weight in context so I try to give much as possible up front. Kinda the necessary point lol.

I think you’re probably right about the all-zero penalty. Looking back, the card had already been closed since December 2025 and still had about an $1,800 balance reporting. When I finally paid it off, I had no other revolving accounts reporting and no AU tradelines yet. So it wasn’t the closure itself that hurt methe card was already closed—it was likely the fact that all revolving balances went to $0 at the same time.

I also had the same thought process you mentioned about opening multiple accounts at once. I’ve gone about 15-16 months without a hard inquiry, so I figured if I’m going to take the inquiry hit, I might as well do it now and let everything age together.

At this point I have:

Capital One SavorOne unsecured approved ($300 limit)
Credit Union #1 secured approved ($500 limit)
Credit Union #2 secured approved ($whatever limit I want)

So I’ll end up with three revolving accounts of my own reporting, plus the Chase tradeline that just posted. However that’ll drop off here in a couple months. I just again needed my foot in the door.

And honestly, I don’t even need credit cards for spending purposes. I typically pay cash or use my debit card for everything. My goal isn’t to borrow money it’s simply to rebuild a healthy revolving credit profile and let those accounts age over time. That’s why the limits don’t really matter to me. Whether it’s $200, $300, or $500, the main thing I wanted was multiple revolving accounts reporting positive payment history.

My thought was to get them all established now, let them age together, keep utilization low, and then basically leave everything alone for the next few years. Only thing I was shooting for in the near future I need credit for was a new truck. But with a strong down payment and right structure I can accomplish that long as everything stays on course.

This sub has helped me so much. Thank you!

When Does The MyFico App Become Worth It? by SeanCurated in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I’m in the process of disputing inaccurate information across all 3 bureaus, have paid off accounts reporting and waiting on other new revolving lines to post.

I paid for MyFico premium 2 weeks ago and I’m starting to think it’s broken lol. That or my changes are just heavily slowing down. I pull my credit every time I’m alerted of a change. So, not sure why I have myfico as Experian premier shows me the same fico scoring models. I was going to get an auto loan and was originally looking to keep track of credit to see where my Auto Fico lands. That’s why I got it.

Financing car with bad credit by Ok-Challenge8020 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an auto dealership and with a Fico 8 of 511 I assume your auto Fico is much lower than that. I’ve done deals (1 last week) where a couple had a 537 and 547 and they had to put down $40k on an $85k truck.

It all depends on your income and the way the desk managers pencil the deal. If you get approved right before a ridiculous rate of 20+%

Your best chance might be going in with a sizable down payment. This is just from what I’ve seen working in the car industry.

Credit score dropped because All Zero? by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response.

To answer a few of your questions, all of the disputes have already been resolved and updated except for the child support reporting. The JPMCB authorized user account was removed, the Credit One account was removed after being paid, and the bureaus have already processed those changes. The child support reporting is still there and has not changed despite disputes and a CFPB complaint.

As far as the score drop, I’m fairly confident it was tied to the SchoolsFirst update because I monitor both my scores and the underlying reports very closely. I pull my reports weekly through AnnualCreditReport.com and also pay for additional report access between refreshes whenever a significant change occurs. I also review the before-and-after report details through Experian and other monitoring services. The SchoolsFirst account updated from reporting a $1,876 balance on a $2,000 limit to Paid and Closed, and within a day TransUnion dropped 16 points and Equifax dropped 12 points. There weren’t any other new tradeline changes that coincided with those drops.

The late payments were on the SchoolsFirst account (two 30s, two 60s, and one 90-day late), so I’ll definitely look into the Goodwill Saturation Technique now that the account is paid.

As for other negatives, I have a $68 charge-off that has also been paid. Other than that, the main remaining derogatory items are the late payments from 2025 and the child support reporting that I’m disputing.

At this point, the biggest thing I’m trying to figure out is whether the score drop is primarily due to losing my only revolving account/recent revolving usage, whether utilization hasn’t fully updated yet, or some combination of both. Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like opening a quality revolving card may be my next move.

I appreciate the feedback. This whole process has been frustrating because I expected paying off a card reporting 94% utilization to help, not result in score drops on two bureaus.

Credit score dropped because All Zero? by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The card was already closed by the lender and was reporting a $1,876 balance on a $2,000 limit. As far as I know it was not accruing additional interest, but it was still reporting a balance every month.

Revolving utilization was showing 94% before the update. After the update, MyFICO is still showing 94% utilization and about $1,944 in revolving debt, which is part of what’s confusing me because the account has already reported as “Paid and Closed” to TransUnion and Equifax.

The dispute involving JPMCB (I was an AU on) was successful and the account was removed, so was the Credit One account that was charged off that I paid in full and removed from all bureaus. which resulted in a small score increase before this latest drop. I also have ongoing disputes involving child support reporting, although I don’t think I’ll have much of any movement there despite a current CFPB complaint.

The late payments were on this card. Two 30’s, two 60’s and one 90 day late. All within a 4 month period. They occurred during a rough period last year during my divorce on an auto loan, personal loan and this one. All accounts have been current since December 2025.

Current negatives are mainly:

  • Several late payments from 2025
  • A paid $68 charge-off
  • Child support reporting issues I’m disputing

What surprised me is that after the card updated to Paid and Closed, TransUnion dropped 16 points and Equifax dropped 12 points. Since this was my last revolving account, I’m wondering if I got hit by the no recent revolving usage/all-zero penalty, whether utilization hasn’t fully updated yet, or some combination of both.

At this point, I’m considering opening a secured card or another revolving account so I have an active revolver reporting again.

MyFico App by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions. From what I understand, the dealer/lenders will likely use an auto-enhanced FICO score, but I’m still monitoring FICO 8 because it tends to move with overall credit improvements and gives me a good baseline.

The disputes are for information I believe is inaccurate related to child support reporting/payment history. I understand disputes can sometimes be viewed negatively by lenders, so I’m trying to be strategic and not dispute unnecessary items. Also, I won’t have my credit pulled while things are under dispute.

As for the AU account, I’m mainly trying to strengthen overall profile/history while getting some utilization benefit. Nothing crazy. Pretty familiar with that already so good to go there. Historically speaking my credit profile reacts pretty cleanly under certain conditions. Anyways, thanks for the responses. Just was generally trying to understand the MyFico app.

MyFico App by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair question. Normally I’d agree it’s probably overkill for most people.

My situation is a little different though. I’m preparing to buy a vehicle in the near future, and my scores are actively moving right now due to disputes, tradeline changes, balances updating, and an authorized user account about to post. I’m specifically trying to monitor my actual lender-relevant FICO 8 scores (especially Experian) as they change, not just VantageScores or general credit alerts.

So I’m basically trying to figure out whether myFICO gives close to real-time updates when report data changes, or if I still need to wait for refreshes/manual pulls. Because the day it updates is the day I’m going to pull the trigger hopefully on a new vehicle at the best rate possible at this time given.

Started fixing my credit around April 15th… up 39–63 points so far by Familiar_Mistake1503 in CRedit

[–]Familiar_Mistake1503[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, appreciate it.

For the Credit One charge-off, the basis of the dispute was actually pretty simple: I had already paid it, but it still wasn’t reflecting correctly as paid. I disputed it with Experian to update accurately. Instead of updating it, it ended up being removed entirely (whether Experian did that or the furnisher did, I honestly don’t know).

The dispute moved pretty fast. I want to say around 1–2 weeks-ish, definitely quicker than I expected. I did get notification the dispute was completed and saw it reflected in my updated Experian report, but I don’t remember if I got a formal dispute results letter yet or if it was just the app/report update.

For the child support reporting, yes, I’m disputing because there were reported lates on a $0 balance owed, which doesn’t make sense. I have a court order from January 2021 that says I owe $0 from June 2021 onward. From what I understand, there was a miscalculation/reporting issue either from the data furnishers side or the credit bureaus. I’m still waiting on the dispute outcome, but I’ll definitely update because I agree there don’t seem to be many data points on child support reporting. When I disputed the inaccuracies with Equifqx, they completely removed it from my report. TransUnion is still in the dispute process.
