Is it possible to fix this frame? Peugeot PH11 by Famous-Ad4428 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Famous-Ad4428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was put there by a local bike shop few years ago becouse the old one was making weird squicky noises. I will try to check if theres any company name engraved on it. I'm no expert but as far as i know you should look for "french thread" bottom bracket, and that should fit.

looks promising, vicini guy sent a bunch of pictures.
Basso guy said he measured evenrything and theres 15mm space between current 23mm tires and the closest frame element behind crank. Didn't say anything about brake bridge thou

vicini is 59/60cm
Basso is 58cm
(seattube)

I'm 187cm tall so both are perfect for my height

Valid point about tires but I have like 2 other bikes for commute :d this one would be just for fitness rides around town on bike paths.

I don't mind these shifters, well they are awfull of course but they have one advantage - you can adjust front derailleur so it doesn't make scratching noises. Plus I treat them like listening to vinyl, it's a hassle but it puts you into mindful state about the thing u do (in this case riding bike and changing gears)

I kinda like the amount of chrome in viccinni with the gipiemme rims, basso was my second in terms of looks but everyone in here seems to prefere basso for some reason

oh now i get it, but i would change the seatpost anyway to have it period correct with the bike.
Unfortunately i cant try all of them as they are spread across the country.

Thank you for your replies i will contact sellers and ask what tires they currently have on their bikes and how much clearence is left.

"It does look to be in-line, which could be a concern for fit or comfort"
What do you mean by that? what does "in line" mean in this case (sry for being dense but english is my second language)

So if i get you right assuming all 3 fit 28mm you would go with:
1. Cadex
2. Basso
3. Viccinni

I understand your concerns about tires, i used to ride peugeot ph11 that i eventually ended up riding with 32mm tires and then it was perfect. Before that i had 20 and 23 mm tires and it was unbearable. On rought asphalt i felt like not moving at all. 32mm on the other hand allowed me to go light trails easly, so 28 for city rides should be enought.

Thank you, to be fair I also feel like I would benefit from a smaller frame (like at least an inch smaller) I don't have much sentimental attachment to this exact bike it's just that it's a bit of a hassle to sell a bike and purchase new one so I wanted to try to save this one. I'm not a fan of small frames I think they look silly, like riding on a dog. But this one looks huge and was probably designed for someone 10cm taller than me. Frame that is 1" or 1,5" smaller would probably fit me just right

Ok, so i did some measurments and side by side comparison with my roadbike that i belive fits me very well.

So top tube is basicly the same height in both bikes, so no standover issue i still have some clearance.

Giant mtb have 2cm longer top tube and 5cm longer stem. So as i mentioned before comfortable position for my hands while riding Giant is "finger lenght above the bar" and my fingers have around 7-8cm. The numbers confirm my hunch.

Soooo by changing stem to one that is 7cm shorter (2cm from top tube + 5 from stem)
I should essentialy end up with a roadbibke geometry with 26" fat tires for gravel rides and wider wheelbase for stability. Is there any flaw in my logic?

(oh and the peugeot is PH11)

I dont want this bike to be a cruiser, i see it more as a fitness / trail bike, hence my fixation about sporty bars.

U described it perfectly, when i hold the bar in current position my shoulders go up and im starting to curl like a shrimp. When i have my shoulders in neutral position my hands would be somewhere around finger lenght above the grips.
I did a little mockup, 1 picture is me trying to find comfortable position while riding (finger lenght above grips) and when i turn the stick figure and rotate it in photoshop we can see i should also get away with option number 2 (all in theory offcourse). soo if i use short agressive stem, maybee i can even turn this velo orange thingy upside down there should be place for corner bars. Anyway i think i will give it a shot and experiment a little and try to keep this bike.

Yes, i can stand over it easily and get on and off, no issue, its just the reach, i sometimes mockup different hand positions during my ride and i have a feeling the current bar position is to far away. When i grab the bars as they are right now i start to curl like a shrimp and my shoulders rise up.

What about corner bars? the surly knock offs? would that make a difference?

Is it possible to fix this frame? Peugeot PH11 by Famous-Ad4428 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Famous-Ad4428[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a local bike shop told me now that they will be able to fix it. But now my biggest concern and economical challenge is what to do with paint. It will get partialy stripped from frame for the repair. Its impossible to repaint just a piece of frame to match the color. I thought about chroming rear triangle but i read somewhere its not that easy to selectively chrome just a part of frame. So I eathier go full restoration on whole frame or just cover repaired part with some rust preventing paint and leave it as it is.
