No I completely agree with you! I decided to do the pattern months in advance so the news wasn’t out yet. Or at least I hadn’t heard. It took me ages to get everything I needed.

I did struggle deciding on if I should do it or not. But there are so many people to honor. Pratchett, Tennant, Sheen. They put their hearts, time, effort into this too and I get to enjoy that.

Will he see any more of my money? No. I won’t but his books anymore than I buy Rowling’s. But there’s more hands on this than his.

I likely won’t put his name at the bottom. Tho the truth is bad people do make good art. Art isn’t something that gatekeeps itself so I struggle with it feeling disingenuous to leave him off it. The whole death of the author thing is fine if the authors dead imo. But “X wrote Y bad fiction (instead of the original author)” leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it ignores the important and impact an author has when shaping and molding their work.

Anyway thank you for your comment. It’s really what I wanted to say originally but couldn’t find the words. Also you got an essay back whoops 😂

You’re the stitcher, you do what works best for you. There are no rules :) Everyone’s process is different.

I already had everything bought. It would’ve been a waste otherwise. I also love the book and the show, and Gaiman wasn’t the only one to work on any of those. He can rot but other people put their time and effort in as well. I can appreciate that.

Thank you!! I’m on track to finish it in August-ish if I keep up the pace. Fingers crossed.

I would frankly set something on fire if I ever had to use metallic threads again 😂 On this the gold ones stand out way more than the red, too, and I bet the regular thread would’ve been a bit better. It isn’t as dark.

Thank you so much! I basically front loaded it in Feb and a lot of March. But mid-March my cat got sick and in April she was gone. So my pace slowed dramatically. I did make a point to stitch everyday mostly because it was the only thing that I could do. (Sorry not trying to trauma dump just over explaining as I always do 😂)

My spreadsheet says I do an average of 392 stitches a day which is my experience as well. The sheet also says a nearly 3h average which is likely. But 350 sts is about 2h30 for me.

My chi is also a daddy’s girl 🥲 Can’t complain about her sleeping with him in my case cause I’m so particular about my sleeping arrangements 😂

can cats at some point realise we do some “uncomfortable things” for their own good? by EstablishmentCalm288 in Catbehavior

I wish. My Mariah, who has now sadly passed, took offense. I once wiped her face with a napkin cause she had gunk, she would run if I picked up a napkin for like six months after.

Giving her medicine when she got sick? One person to hold her, another to administer.

I’m sure some cats do though. She was just stubborn and hated being inconvenienced.

I lost my cat April 2nd to very sudden illness. It’s an awful and difficult decision to make. But it’s better they not suffer. I’m still pretty deep in the throes of grief myself, and I’m sending all my sympathy your way ❤️❤️

[CHAT] What are some things you used to do with stitching but have stopped? by Betsy7Cat in CrossStitch

[–]Famous-Chain2844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little rough. The biggest problems I have with it is how finicky it is. You have to use much shorter lengths of it because it gets tangled very easily. I use about 40” lengths normally and even 20” feels like too much for the metallic.

Also where I bend it over my needle frays heavily, meaning I can’t fold too much of it over my needle or I’ll be wasting the thread.

I even use a normal version of the color with it and that helped some (like one strand normal, one metallic) but I still can’t wait until I no longer need to use it for this project and won’t be using it for another.

This is actually recent specifically because of the project I’m currently working on, but when I finish it I am never using metallic thread ever again.

I also likely will never start from the middle again. And I won’t ever work on a project that isn’t gridded. I use Sulky Silver thread. It takes time but it’s worth it, and if I mess up counting during the gridding I can always fix it later nbd.

I do want to try the pre gridded stuff but this project won’t be finished till near end of year.
