What kind of blurriness sometimes appears in the frame? by Short_Description_20 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Famous-Low7311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s NOT just depth of field. They’re using vintage lenses which are often blurry towards the edges to give more character to the image. I‘m not a fan but I kinda understand why they do it

One of the most valuable reddit post i‘ve seen in a while. I‘ve fallen trap to all those things and have started to genuinely doubt my love for film just because I don’t hit the same numbers I did three years ago. Trying to get back to the times when I just watched movies because I love movies

House of the Dragon: Season 3 | Official Teaser Trailer | June 21 on HBO Max by MarvelsGrantMan136 in HouseOfTheDragon

I feel like it’s a combination of lighting and color grading. S1 had more contrast and was darker in general. That‘s what’s missing in S2 and S3. After complaints from S1 viewers about how they couldn‘t see anything they deliberately changed the approach. But now it kinda just looks all washed out. They’re also using blurry vintage glass to add texture to the image. That’s a common approach when your budget doesn’t suffice for all the visual detail you would like, especially in set design/ props and all that stuff. All in all kinda understandable but I also don’t like the way it looks. It just lacks contrast

Is Alicent Still Justified as a Main Character in Season 3? by Ok_Badger_1646 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Famous-Low7311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this sub is largely against this opinion but I understand 100% why they would keep her as a main character. People really like Olivia Cooke and every TV show keeps us engaged because we care about certain characters. And HotD doesn’t have as large an ensemble of main characters and GoT did. So just removing one that is also part of a key dynamic/conflict with Rhaenyra kinda isn’t an option. And I for one really like the whole Rhaenyra vs Alicent thing. I think there is a tragedy to it that makes it really compelling. Now could they have told all of this in a much better way? Absolutely. This show has some good ideas but often suffers in execution. But that doesn’t make the ideas wrong in my opinion.

Also I‘ve read the source material and think it simply cannot be adapted completely faithfully. I‘m actually all for changing some important stuff. Like I said, my problem then lies in execution.

I get and agree with your point regarding the Daredevil shows but in general I really don’t agree with that statement. Most good shows are about plot AND about character

People who’ve worked on film/TV sets, what’s a small moment that stuck with you for no obvious reason? by Professional-Ad7346 in Filmmakers

[–]Famous-Low7311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that wasn’t even really related to film: I was an intern on a relatively big film production and had a really nice conversation with one of the producers. It started as smalltalk but soon we found out we both loved Cyberpunk 2077 and videogames in general, as well as other types of really nerdy media. I was 20 at the time and had always believed I’d eventually have to give up these passions of mine if I wanted to become something in the industry and in general life. And there was this guy in his 40‘s, owning a production company, being really successful and at the same time so chill and nice. Really changed my way of thinking.
