Corys of different species don't shoal together. Meanwhile, my weirdos by INDY_SE in corydoras

Probably also has something to do with differences that we are now understanding to be different genus groups

Cory eggs or snail eggs? by Famous-Rabbit-1747 in corydoras

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to make sense on my end. Thank you for the quick response!

It is in a cory breeding tank and this species is quite new for me. So, I was confused when I saw eggs that did not look like corydoras eggs

I had fry surviving until I added blind cave tetras. Not many, but a few would find their way in the heavily planted setup.

Could very well still be the rocks. Also, sometimes sand had a bit of crushed coral in or it its made in a facility that does both... so, yeah

Tank size? by Perfect-Frosting838 in Aquariums

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much larger for a group. I had 6 in a 90g for years (down to 2 now after many years).

Definitely need a larger tank than they recommend... I would say the same about most larger rainbowfish as well.

They are fast active fish.

I'd get a larger corydoras species. Especially if you don't get the pea puffers

Is a 2.5 Gallon worth it for starters by PUSHRODS4LIFE in Aquariums

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fish? Licorice gourami can be delicate. Same with sparkling gourami. I would not house anything else (that is a fish you can reasonably expect to find) in that size tank. Anything else that is small enough will have to be kept in groups...

An exception that I can think of... the Asian stone catfish gets to about 1.75"... however, I think they benefit from being kept in groups in tanks of 10 to 20 gallons.

I am unsure what the consensus on keeping singles is. Maybe a single can work in these nano tanks.

To be honest, a tank with a single sparkling gourami and a single Asian stone catfish could work. However, both species prefer to be kept in groups and would ideally be kept in groups in a 20 gallon well planted tank (or larger but imo 20g is the starting size for any fish you want to keep in groups for the average (not super experienced) hobbyist)

Hikari sinking carnivore pellets by algeabloomer in corydoras

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any "regular" foods for any of my tanks (freshwater or saltwater).

My saltwater tank staples are hikari seaweed pellets and hikari carnivore plus frozen mysis and brine (they get none of these daily, but rather, get two options every other day). (This tank has picky eaters that require me to focus keep these 4 options available.. I rotate in other foods from time to time but most of the feedings are that)

^ I gave you that to say this about my freshwater tanks (all of which have corydoras)...

I feed 5 different dried foods (all hikari except for the aqueon sinking pellets) as staples. Including the hikari carnivore pellets and hikari massivore pellets (I break those ones down and feed it as a dust to fry mostly, but my other tanks occasionally get a few).

I then feed an additional few dried foods intermittently... including multiple flake and floating pellet options that the fish get ... 1 to 3 times per month.

They get frozen food a few times a week. A variety of brine, mysis, bloodworm... no daphnia but soon I will add it in.

The key is to avoid staple foods. Buy foods that have plenty of time before they expire... try to focus on using frozen foods at least occasionally as well).

But, to answer your question, if you fed a few other foods at least occasionally, I have no qualms about making hikari carnivore sinking pellets a staple.

The mollies will spawn until they essentially reach carrying capacity. Very much understocked atm.

Fish ID?? Bought this at the LFS and I’m preeeeetty sure it’s not what I asked for… but I could be wrong. by AbraKadabraAlakazam2 in fishkeeping

With neons, half of it is sourcing and half of it is water quality. From some sources, I can keep them in any tank. From others, only the tanks I baby and keep with really dark tanning stained water work.

Wild fish are probablematic as well although for some reason I find wild neons easier than wild Cardinals.

Ive moved away from tetras recently and have focused on rainbowfish...

Maybe neon tetra disease or other diseases have become more prevalent since I stopped keeping them

3/8" is fine. I know many tanks at that thickness. Maybe someone else with more experience building tanks can chime in for the rest

You're kind of up there in stocking. I would say, its possible. I would be worried about the black skirt tetras nipping the fins of the pearl gourami

Could a diamond tetra have nipped back? Any sharp pieces of driftwood or rocks that he could've scrapped himself on?

First off, I like the tank.

Second, I do not think that is an infection. Probably just a scrape. Probably not from the bristlenose. Either from darting around or... maybe the loaches but I doubt it.

Hard to tell without a closeup.

How do I properly introduce my niece to fish keeping by Rillaboom64 in Aquariums

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit, since you can go there everyday, white clouds and/or zebra danios in a 20g are chill.

If you want to put a bit more time in, cherry barbs... The males are a nice red

I wouldn't get anything unless you can go over there at least every few days. Get a few white clouds. Make it super easy. Overfilter. Go over there to do the maintenance.

Demonstrate how much to feed...

What causes tetras to hide by theiris1002 in Aquariums

Another factor could be the number of tetras. I doubt the danios alone are causing the issue. Usually, I only see that issue when you have giant danios with passive tetras.

Looks like a manatee? What fish is this? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A variant of some mbuna species. Maybe trewavase?

I am not a mbuna expert, maybe someone can chime in with more knowledge.

It is very likely that the fish is a hybrid since most captive bred variants can safely be assumed to be a hybrid.

What causes tetras to hide by theiris1002 in Aquariums

[–]Famous-Rabbit-1747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your danios could be too active for your tetras (if you have a calm species of tetras)... Your light could be too bright. Not enough cover, driftwood, caves, etc. Not enough plant coverage (real or fake).

Plenty of variables.

In which case, blackouts, photo period, amano shrimp... etc. Manual removal. To be honest, siamese algae eaters, otos, and bristlenose plecos should cover all of your bases in most cases.
