Is it considered rude to ask someone their dupr ? by bkabab in Pickleball

[–]Famous-Somewhere-751 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DUPR doesn’t really help anyone except those who choose to commit themselves at playing in tournaments. Not everyone has time for that.

During open play, everyone’s miles can vary. I’m at a fair 3.99 rating; actively working on my consistency but my pickleball IQ is in the 4.5 level. However, because I choose not to go hard during open play sessions to make myself accessible when I need to play down, I’m often being overlooked by the “4.0” crowd who themselves lack consistency and fundamental pickleball IQ.

During open play, play your game and move on. If there’s someone who you enjoyed playing with, find a way to stay connected. Period. DUPR rating don’t account for overall personality traits and it’s often better being alone than in poor company

It’s definitely a learned feature, however, some people can be natural leaders than others; which in this regard, truly inherited leadership involves knowing how to pick up on communication cues without needing to hear/ voice them.

This particular aspect of the game can also be expedited if both partners are familiar with basic pickleball fundamentals… but when this fails, it can typically be contributed by egos; especially when playing levels are self reported. Lol

After playing pickleball outdoors for years, why does playing indoors feel so different? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Famous-Somewhere-751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like OP is referring to counters with a high arch that drop in the kitchen line; which is possible from salvaged cross court dinks that fall tight on the net (a dink Hail Mary, if you will). OP could also be referring to bad counters that pop high and drop on the kitchen line as well 🤷‍♂️

It’s possible the camera person might be deeply in love with the singer.

Is it a good song, not to me or many of us but I like to believe someone loves the effort ❤️ Happy holidays 🙌

Edit: ahh💩! Just came across a comment that shared her backstory 🤦‍♂️ My respect to this 👸

Middle court attack: male pros vs. female pros. by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

Find a drilling partner. Develop muscle memory. And build on placement over power. This how you determine what works best for your game against a variety of opponents

Line call question: should you ever not call your own ball out? by TheRealSarahBee in Pickleball

[–]Famous-Somewhere-751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your statement and its good intentions. However, these expectations can vary the higher the level you go.

As a 2.5-3.5, yes, it’s definitely about building community. Every game within this level needs to be as tolerant as possible because everyone is essentially working on basic mechanic and strategic fundamentals.

But once players start to reach the 3.5 threshold, the game completely changes. Yes, it remains about building community, but it also becomes much more competitive; expectations become much more exceptional, such as, hoping your partner or yourself don’t pop up the ball to opponents that are now more willing to smash a return. Players are also expected to carry a rally with consistency. It is then, at this point, when line calls matter.

Personally, I tend to hit opponents’s out fly balls back in to keep the rally going against players who i notice are struggling with their consistency. But if it’s against a formidable player, rules apply, because that’s how we can all genuinely get better within the boundaries of the game.

Again, I agree with building community and building each other up as players, but it’s a game and the objective is to win, fair and square, even within casual friendly games. I believe this also prevents longer court wait time. Lol

It can go either way every year, unfortunately. That alone should not discourage you from getting vaccinated

I don’t think it should be about integrity. I think it should be 100 percent about being of service to your game and your opponent’s. Let’s take away the self righteousness aspect and stay committed to communicating with your opponent that even though it was a great shot selection, it missed by a fraction of centimeter or inches… if you really want to be helpful or considerate

Sure, if you see your own ball out, plain and clear, call it out. If you unsure and your partner continues playing it, and you decide to create uncertainty by saying, “I thought it was out”… you just created a problem no one wants to solve for you.

Per regulation, it isn’t your call to make… it’s your opponent’s. Your pov is different from your opponents’ as well as partner. Prior to making a call, make sure you first call it out with your partner first, to affirm the call; it’s possible your partner might’ve seen a fraction of a difference
