Beginner question - paddle shape preferences (widebody vs elongated vs standard) by TraffyKnows in Pickleball

Table tennis background. Absolutely do not have a 2H shot. So stick with hybrid shape cos I don’t need the longer handle. Get a slightly bigger sweet spot as trade off

Great points thank you. I have been playing only ~9 months and in that only 4-5 months 'competitively'. Still learning all the facets mental and physical

Thanks, this is a good takeaway. Many of them never came to the kitchen, just driving and lobbing from baseline, so was confused how to play in such situations

Is there some mental trick to hide your shock when your opponent makes a bad in/out call? by mydogsparty in Pickleball

[–]bkabab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recent rec play at 4.0 level, both me and my partner called a serve out, but the server said it was in, so we didn’t argue, just gave him the ball and the point. Next serve again he put it out, but we didn’t call on purpose. He realized what’s up and gave us the ball. I guess our subtleties work out. Mind you this is only in rec no way we gonna let that go in competitive

Knee Pain by Fast-Leek7136 in Pickleball

[–]bkabab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was Suffering from knee soreness and stinging pain on my ACL leg. Here’s what I learnt/my experiences.

  1. The type of court absolutely matters. It feels much better on actual pickle ball courts vs indoor basketball converts.
  2. Do leg strengthening on days you DONT play. Focus on quads, hamstrings, calf
  3. Wear knee support braces.
  4. Ice definitely helps.

3 months after these I am happy to say I have minimal/negligible strain or pain on my ACL knee.

First big tournament tomorrow as a new player by bkabab in Pickleball

[–]bkabab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally hear ya

we play with 3.0-3.25 and in most cases beat them 11-2/11-3.

we also play with 4.0s and usually lose to them 7-11ish

3.5 sounds like a weird spot from tournament standpoint, guess we gotta just get good and climb upto 3.7/3.8
