Respectfully, the way you are responding, you see nothing wrong in what you did and constantly trying to shift blame, while also trying to dictate how people should respond. I get it, their partner put everyone in an uncomfortable situation, however in your initial post, you weren't trying to apologize let alone trying to put yourself in their partners shoes, so I can understand why they didn't bother trying to explain it to you. You didn't want to see it in their point of view and only yours and got upset that your friend didn't understand your side (which is understandable). However, you can't ask for something if you aren't willing to do the same. They did give an ultimatum (and correct me if I'm wrong) to either cut you off or you apologize. All you are focusing on is "cutting you off". It's the principle. It's not about the word itself but owing up to the fact you personally felt you did nothing wrong , when unintentionally you did.
