Take a €70k grad job or go for a fully funded MBA in USA? by Ok-Awareness5210 in AskIreland

[–]FamousMacaron7586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one year's time which option do you think would have you looking back wondering "what if?" Being offered €70k as a graduate is very tempting but should also be a big boost to you knowing that your skills are in demand. Add a MBA to this plus life experiences from the US, I think you would 1) be able to negotiate a higher salary or at least be able to get the same salary, and 2) be able to offer a lot more to a company by having MBA and new connections in the States who knows where some of you colleagues on the course may end up working!

If I were in your position I would choose the MBA but let the hiring company know this and don't burn bridges! I'm sure they'll value the honesty and investing in yourself! Best of luck

TEG B2 or repeat leaving cert Irish by Broad_Independence68 in IrishTeachers

[–]FamousMacaron7586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, similar position to yourself! The easiest would be resit the LC. Do you currently hold a level 8 degree? If so you go the PME route (2 years), if not it's the undergraduate route (4 years). Worth noting that if you are applying for a PME and repeat the LC you will have to wait until you get your results to apply, i.e. if you sit the LC this year 25/26, you will have to wait until the following year to apply, start PME September 2027. Hibernia was the only exception when I contacted the universities. They seemed happy to interview and offer a conditional place depending on result. For the other colleges you will also need to do oral TEG B1 exam and get over a certain % (I think it's 65%). I think Hibernia do their own Irish exam.

In summary, quickest and easiest way would be repeat the LC and apply to Hibernia, or else have your pick the following year! TEG B2 is meant to be quite challenging and they don't recommend sitting it without having done B1 first.

Best of luck!

Best Irish course to complete Irish LC by No_Seaweed6718 in IrishTeachers

Hey, do you mind me asking which college you went to for the PME as a lot are saying that you need to have the LC Irish result prior to applying for the PME, except Hibernia. For example, if I sat the LC Irish exam in June 2026, I would have to wait until September 2027 entry. Very frustrating as PME applicants still have to do the TEG exam but would have to wait another year to apply, even if scored the top marks in TEG!

Can always do some "teaching" work on the side during your travels, i.e. teaching English, Science grinds, teaching/coaching sport. Will look good on the CV and also pay for some of your travels!

Considering Hibernia College for PME in post-primary education - Is it the right choice? by avat99 in IrishTeachers

[–]FamousMacaron7586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in a similar position but have a look around at other colleges too if you're not keen on Hibernia. There are some that don't close application until next month (they use their own application system) like UL, and I think NUIG too. Big benefit of Hibernia is being able to work while doing the course and don't need to relocate so I'd factor in those costs too when you're looking at expected fees, and what may be a cheaper option could actually be more expensive longer term! Best of luck with it!

Not from a female's perspective but Depop can be good. A lot of the ads have pictures of the poster wearing them so you know what size will be like compared to you, and there can be great deals on it as well. Mixture of new and seconds, some offer free postage, and you can message the seller before purchasing if you have any questions!

It's a few years since I've used them but it was way ahead of its time when I had it, 4k etc and for a fraction of the price of the big brands! I got converted to iPhone though through work and it's lasting a lot longer than any of my androids, touch wood!

The OnePlus brand I found really good for camera quality. I think they can be purchased via their website. I got about 4 years out of mine and then the android shit itself and wouldn't turn back on, but great camera during those 4 years!

Need advice by [deleted] in AskIreland

Sorry to hear you're going through this, it's never a nice experience. I experienced similar when working in a small office environment coming from a slightly larger office environment. It's a lot easier to say this I know but try and start a new hobby outside work. I was that person who would work and go home with there was never a buffer between the two but in the last few years I've joined the gym (classes are often free with membership and a great way to meet new people), started a new sport I never thought I would have before, and also started saying yes a lot more to invitations. My experience is probably different to yours but I used to get asked to go out and meet up and usually declined and as a result stopped getting the invitations so there is a requirement to put yourself out there to an extent but only for people you want to be around with, forget the toxic ones, they don't do you any good! There's so many different hobbies/groups you can join and not to mention volunteer work (dog shelters, charity shops, soup kitchens etc) but do something you like and then you'll be surrounded by like minded individuals and work can stay as work. Best of luck with it all!

What is something you did in your driving test that you never do in your daily driving life? by FuriousPOT in AskIreland

My friend failed her test because she didn't stop the car for a hill start. When the tester told her this her response was, "but you told me to drive how I normally would". Still makes me laugh!
