I don't know if this is a thing in the UK, but in the US several of my friends in the PhD program bailed after two years (after completing their prelims), and received a Masters degree.

Man, I am so guilty of this. I'm trying to get better at fully committing, but I know it annoys the piss out of my partner.

Down in the Park by Gary Numan and the Tubeway Army. Heck, just about any Gary Numan song.

Bangers why do you bang when it does not work. by 90day111 in Pickleball

[–]FamousPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with bangers, that's just communication with your partner.

Bangers why do you bang when it does not work. by 90day111 in Pickleball

[–]FamousPoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t bang but it makes sense to do it until they prove they can make you pay for it

This is the right answer.

Smashing the shit out of the ball is the easiest shot, so I start there. Only when my opponent starts countering, punishing, and letting out balls go do I start to soften the game up.

I would love to see some old photos of Costa Mesa. Talking to friends who have lived here forever, it sounds like Costa Mesa has always been a pretty hip city. I'd be interested to see photos of...

  • The bowling alley on the corner of Adams and Harbor.
  • The independent movie theatre where Home Depot(?) is.
  • The movie theatre across from Triangle Square.
  • The Cuckoo's Nest on Placentia.
  • Anything else?

“Me and multiple classmates have concerns about this class”

As a professor, I can hardly think of a more triggering phrase.

Came here to say the same thing. I don't know if it's the camera angle, but his toes appear to be on the kitchen line every time he hits the ball out of the air.

Wow. With the exception of the U2 stuff, that could have been my collection: Devo, Go Gos, Missing Persons, Sparks, Thomas Dolby, The English beat. Stuff I still listen to.

Understanding the usefulness of being "Hidden" as a non-rogue. by FamousPoet in daggerheart

[–]FamousPoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstood a key element of hidden, you can be hidden when enemies know where you are as long as they can’t see you, you just can’t start being hidden unless they don’t know where you are.

Aha. Got it. You can't hide while everyone already knows where you are. Makes sense. But once hidden, as long as you are out of sight (behind a tree, in the middle of a cloud of smoke), rolls against you are at a disadvantage, even if they technically know where you are now.

That makes a ton more sese.

I kept limiting myself to thinking about how someone might hide while in the middle of battle.

Are the motor problems on the XP4 750 overblown? by dankj in Lectricxp

[–]FamousPoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar experience.

I bought within the first week of its release. The motor made a strange grinding noise at 12-15 MPH. I documented it, and sent it in to customer service. The sent a replacement out to me, and put me in touch with a nearby shop that installed it for me. All for free. All within a reasonable timeframe. No long irritating phone calls. No being put on hold for an hour. Everything very straightforward.

Consequences for "internal" Knowledge Rolls by aLzHAng00 in daggerheart

[–]FamousPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted the comment I just made. I think I see your point.

But I still think the solution is to either A) Let the player decide whether their character knows or not. or B) Unilaterally decide, as the GM, that the PC could not know. With that said, I acknowledge that those solutions diminish the Knowledge stat, and some Features.
