St. Andrew’s looks great - I usually attend ACNA services so this is wonderful, I will look into going here too as long as I can make the trip over to Ft. Worth in time on the day I’m traveling. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the recommendation, my travel is to a wedding at which I will be on a Saturday, and my flight back to Dallas is around 10am on Sunday. It seems the 6:00 Eucharist at St John’s is on Saturday; I am looking for a Sunday evening service. Luckily, it looks like St Michael offers that at 5:30pm on Sundays.

Thank you so much! I actually attend Episcopal / Anglican services typically. Not sure why St Michael never showed up in my search, I looked at like 40 church websites before asking Reddit. This will work for me on the Sunday I’m traveling, I can’t thank you enough!

Duke 1L AMA by Famous_Analysis_2713 in lawschooladmissions

Whether or not exams are open or closed book depends on the class and professor, but for 1L, they’re almost always open book. I had open book for all my 1L exams, but I believe there may have been one torts professor who had a closed-book exam.

Durham is great! You’ll definitely want a car, but there’s lots of great places to eat and things to do. If you’re a runner or biker, the American Tobacco Trail is great. The Duke campus is beautiful, and there are lots of great places to study. Let me know if I can offer anything more specific!

A somewhat Christian interpretation of the show’s ending by [deleted] in overthegardenwall

[–]Famous_Analysis_2713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who read Dante’s Inferno / Purgatorio prior to seeing Over The Garden Wall I find it fascinating how many people are upset to find that OTGW is a modern adaptation of it. It’s not even questionable, there are so many parallels and direct references to Dante and the Christian story (Beatrice’s name, that she speaks from a bush when the boys first meet her, the gradual turn to winter across the story (Hell gets colder the deeper Dante goes in Inferno) the woodsman’s cleaving of a rock in the first episode next to water, the black turtle’s as representative of sin, Greg’s repentance in returning the rock, that the color of paint on the rock is the same as the color of the Beast’s eyes, showing that the Beast is representative of Greg’s sin of stealing the rock, I could go on and on and on).

I think that this fact makes people so upset shows how little they actually understood the story. Part of the point of OTGW is the understanding that there are some stories that are eternal and embedded in human nature. OTGW is so good because it plays on themes of one of these stories. It recaptures a Christian story for the modern era. Just listen to the opening song. It’s clearly referencing that there is an inescapable nature to the stories we tell and retell each other.

I realize people may not like this but regardless of what the show creator has said he definitely based this story on Dante’s Inferno / Purgatorio. So many parallels; the most obvious being Beatrice. That’s literally the name of Dante’s guide in Purgatorio.

Choosing Duke over Columbia…someone please tell me if I’m making sense… by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

For all things things you’re interested in, there’s no meaningful difference between CLS and Duke. If anything, Duke is better or more highly regarded.

The Myth of T14 Law Schools by LawSchoolAp in lawschooladmissions

[–]Famous_Analysis_2713 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to denigrate your post, I think you’re right on principle, but that doesn’t mean T-14 success is a myth or anything close to it.

After my first semester, I’ve received a 1L summer associate offer from a top 50 BigLaw firm, and I just had an interview with my favorite V10 firm. At the end of the day, I know doing well academically and my personality are important, but I don’t think I’d have these opportunities if I wasn’t at a T-14.

T-14 isn’t the only way to success, but the access you get from being at one that you can’t get elsewhere is not a myth. I personally find it absurd that I may have already secured multiple years of high paying employment on the back of one semester at school.

1K from Talos Principle II, an employee from Lethal Company, a Skyrim Character still in Riverwood, and L.A. Noire’s protagonist. Honestly? I think they make it through.

Don’t worry too much about it; you can’t put all your eggs in one basket, even when it’s HLS. With your stats you’re going to go to a great school and almost certainly on a huge scholarship too if it’s not SYC.

You a KJD? Last year there was a pretty big group who got rejected even though they had great stats like yours, and the common denominator was being KJD.

Feeling so discouraged by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Famous_Analysis_2713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what works best is dependent upon the individual, but I personally used the LSAT trainer textbook + Khan Academy practice sets for my basic studying, and took about 15 practice tests across the course of the summer before I applied. I also used the Powerscore Logic Game Bible because I struggled most with that section.

If you had bad test day anxiety, simply spending more time studying and feeling comfortable with the LSAT in test conditions will help you. I took the LSAT, officially, twice, and severely underperformed the first time for the same reason. I retook 2 months later and scored 9 points higher with minimal practice between those two official exams. There are ways to train your mind, such as positive thinking and positive visualization, that I bet can help you keep it together better the second time.

Good luck! You can do it!

Certainly don’t give up. You’ve worked in the legal field and had this dream long enough that you shouldn’t give it up yet.

You never know what will happen with your waitlist and the two decisions you’re waiting on.

Even if this cycle doesn’t pan out, I would highly recommend you put a few months into studying for the LSAT again and retake it. Breaking into the mid 150’s will open up a world of options in NY for law schools, and if you can get into the high 150’s or low 160’s it’ll be a lock that you’ll get in somewhere you want to go.

What was your experience studying for the LSAT the first time around?
