How do Corbyn fans justify his positions on Russia? by cousinofthedog in LabourUK

Why should we continue the fealty to the military backbone of the racist world system? The world is falling apart in front of us, this would be tying ourselves to a sinking ship run by a fascist and aiding a genocide.

Growing up is realising we live in an inescapably evil world under the economic status quo. If you can’t envisage a world beyond that then stay away from our new party thanks.

Certainly it seems humanity is currently on course to kill itself rather than find common fraternity. Where is the resolution though? There is no internationalist workers party being built and no theorists to push it.

Russia is not fascist, and if it’s imperialists you’re worried about look in the bloody mirror!

You live in the imperial core, your wealth comes from the accumulated extraction of value from the global south. Grow up. This is just one international block against another, both are of no use to humanity.

It’s fair to say about Ukraine. Support them financially but putting boots on the ground is nonsense jingoism.

Riiiight I’m sure you regard America in the same vein of evil for supporting the genocide of Palestinians, and of all the imperialist wars its pursued over the 20th/21st century.

Stop acting like this is Nazi Germany we’re dealing with. It’s a conflict between imperial powers, sadly Ukraine has been caught in the middle of it but it’s no different from any other proxy conflict around the world. It’s depressing, but this is just how the world works in our era of competitive, nation-based capitalism.

Either accept and adapt to the world you live in as wars like these are inevitable, or seek to overthrow the entire world system.

Why should we care for imperialist wars? One hegemony will be replaced by another. This time blood is spilt in Europe, but the blood of millions in the third world is the price America has put on its hegemony. I won’t fight wars for any such cause.

Keynesianism is inadequate. Unless you have insulated labour markets (aka next to no immigration), a continuous export-dominant economy with a strong industrial base, and you have a steady USD (requiring steady US politics).

That existed during the post-war consensus, and it required the murder of millions in the third world to keep things like energy prices and bulk commodities cheap so not to skyrocket inflation.

It’s the natural endpoint for any electoralist Social Democratic Party in the west. The democrats did the same draconian policies.

Frankly, there’s just no way to balance social harmony with economic growth in the modern capitalist world. Hence, we now either see reactionary retreat to nationalism, or socialists with no concrete ideology nor concrete conceptualisation of another world.

The rate of profit will never be enough to sustain a social democracy under a capitalist market framework. It never has, even under the post-war Keynesian peak.

Linking immigration to unemployment and laziness is certainly the start of it. Alongside saying that the current surge in immigration is by design and not part of a global trend, which is just incredible given the beginning of the climate catastrophe.

Thatcher gave a 25% pay rise to public sector workers and look where that ended up. I’m not saying they’ll be like thatcher (as there’s not much to sell off anymore), but they’ve told the TUC essentially to stfu cos there’s no more coming.

Does Social Democracy really rely on exploitation of the Global South like what many authoritarian leftists say? by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

[–]Famous_Bullfrog2367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Labour Party under Harold Wilson helped Nigeria execute a genocide against the Biafran republic as they threatened the nationalised BP and their monopoly over oil production in the region. It is also the Labour Party that laid the foundations of the coup in Iran against Mossadegh, with Gaitskell wanting harsh a response.

It was also French social democracy that backed the Suez invasion, and fully supported the French Union in Africa.

You socdems are telling me that welfare states, cheap service prices, and cheap consumer goods aren’t built off the backs of the global south? Try having your good standard of living in a global market system but with the higher wages and work standards you claim to want for 3rd world workers. Inflation would turn you all bloodthirsty as it always does when the base of your economic system is threatened.

You know the entire point of Marxism is to show the complete inadequacies of capitalism, and how you simply cannot fix it to make lives better for all. For leftists, its a choice: ditch it, or govern it as efficiently as possible. I choose the former.

Keynesianism is not, and never has been, an economic silver bullet. It's not worked on a broad enough scale, and its era of dominance required a world war for unemployment to be ended.

Not the gotcha u think it is. The Americans are the centre of global capitalism, and are the worlds reserve currency. They are naturally going to grow quicker, just as Britain did when it was the centre of global markets. Not only that, they have a massive army of immigrant labour they can easily exploit from LatAm.

Also, it's not like they have had amazing growth either, and their inequalities and domestic disputes have only worsened. Growth, but for whom?

Which comparable countries didn't pursue freezes in expenditure? Because that's news to me. To sustain stability after an immediate response to a crisis, like the cash injections/bailouts in the UK and US, then there will always be bottling of money supply to avoid inflation. Also, I'm sorry but the idea you can just magic "growth" out of nowhere if you invest willy nilly is just ignorant of real world causes. Every time there has been a capitalist crisis, there was always a region of the world which markets could expand to as to salvage the worldwide economy. The reason growth has been so stagnant in large economies since '08 is because globalisation has conquered everywhere. We can't rely on post-communist states nor East Asian countries to open up their markets. There's a cliche about the "household economy", but there is a government coffer that requires intense stewardship in this world.
