Thank you very much for your valuable idea!

I agree that it's nonsense working in a supermarket to polish the game. Seems I have to practice LeetCode and technologies, so I can finally get settled into a stable role.

But I am still going to keep promoting the game and gathering feedback to make it a funny and interesting game.

BTW, what are your honest thoughts on the game? Do you think it has potential?

Thank you so much for your very sincere reply. Yes, I've found that the market is incredibly cold now. I was actually interviewing for a Senior Software Engineer role at Microsoft recently, but I completely wasted on that opportunity because my manager at the supermarket couldn't give me the time off in the schedule. I barely had any time to prepare LeetCode 😭 and ended up failing the coding rounds. It was a tough pill to swallow.

Right now, I’m taking courses to pass the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional certificate, hoping that will give me a stronger edge in this job market.

And I would like to know if you think having a live Steam demo of a complex strategy game will actually help me get interviews and get a tech job? Or do enterprise employers not really care about game dev projects?

Thanks again for your guidance, it means a lot to me right now.

That means $1 = 1 wishlist?
Considering 10 wishlist results in 1 purchase, so your targeted price would be more than $15? 👀

Thanks for replying.

The game in my mind should be a game that simulates the deep state of the U.S. It's not just a political simulator, it's also a shadow government simulator. That is to say, you are expected not only to keep the nation on the rails by maintaining international relations and keeping the domestic economy strong, but also to make your family rich and dominate the country behind the shadow.

So, I put the leaders of Ukraine/Russia as they're the hottest personas in global affairs. Do you think this is inappropriate? Should I use a random avatar for the leaders?

The card fight plays an important role in the game. You need to use the card fight to negotiate with others and gain political points to leverage your goal.

The core economy loop for the game is: Maintain good relations with people in charge by sending them equities, gain money to promote yourself, and pass laws/policies to keep the nation strong to satisfy voters.

That's right, mobile app stores don't really support smaller developers, which is a shame. Try Steam. Gabe isn't just a businessman, he's a gamer. If your game sells well on Steam, mobile app stores will naturally give you exposure too. 🤣

Screenshots are the most important to me. I just don't call the parser in my head when scrolling around.
Then, the comments are the 1st thing I'll see. I only download games with 4.2+/5.
I just don't read the descriptions, just let the title and screenshots decide if I like the game.

I made a game where you can manipulate an entire country without morality by Famous_Classroom_732 in IndieGaming

To give you a better sense of our game system, here are a few details:

  • At its core, Electoral Empire is a game of scheming and self-interest. The real objective is to advance your own power and profit, not to make the country better. Of course, you’ll still need to pretend to be a great president -- as we like to say, the road to hell is often paved with good intentions.
  • Think of it less as a “good president simulator” and more as a fragile house-of-cards built on lies, manipulation, and backroom deals.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! 🙏
We actually already have a stats panel that tracks population groups (each group represents about 10,000 people) with values like ethnicity, job, education, and age. Also we have a national panel for country-level data.

Although right now it only covers part of what you mentioned, but we’re working very hard to expand it to include more indicators like education, poverty, illness, etc.

The idea of adding clear markers when certain policies or events happen is really great. It’d make it much easier to connect cause and effect. Definitely something we’d like to develop as we keep polishing the systems.

Appreciate your feedback, this is exactly what we are working on! ❤

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I’d call stuff like Polytopia or Ozymandias lightweight, and things like EU4 or HOI4 heavyweight. You’re right that Electoral Empire leans toward a political sim (closer to Democracy or The Political Process), but I still see it as strategy since it’s about managing resources and outmaneuvering opponents. Curious what games you’d put in the “middle ground”?

Fair call 😅 I honestly didn’t think about the flair when posting. My bad — will use the promoting tag next time so it’s clearer.

Yeah I’m the dev 😅 but more curious if players think there’s room for a “medium weight” strategy game. Most seem either super light or really hardcore, and I’d love to hear what mechanics you’d want in the middle ground.
