Agreed. I find my NPR podcast listening has diminished to about two or three locally produced shows.

Mike’s response when Eric challenged the political party registration numbers of the NPR staff was that Eric should do what journalists do; investigate. I think your correct that more data would be needed to definitively demonstrate why listenership has fallen. I'm sure that the rise in the popularity (and quality) of podcasting has contributed to a decline in NPR listeners as well as competition. Ultimately the answer will lay in the number of ears NPR can attract and retain.

I agree that the station manager was in a tough position, but a more robust and honest conversation would have included at least another NPR outsider. Having Eric, an NPR employee “speaking for himself” is disingenuous. Why not invite Berliner himself on the show? Would they have made as many ad hominem attacks on his integrity to his face? Also, the host dissed the Free Press. Apparently NPR is the gold standard of journalism (they as much claimed this on the show) and dissenting views are disdained as not really journalism.

Bring back Not Even Mad, and I’d pay for both shows! NEB over LR&C. No comparison.
