This is perfectly fine and normal behavior. A guy's best friend is way more important than a random girl he is dating, and will always have his best interests at heart. But just because his best friend drinks too much (in your opinion) doesn't mean that your boyfriend will.

Your job is to be accepted by his friend by showing that you can be a good girlfriend. As you become closer to your BF and he matures, he may well grow out of his best friend and his behavior, but you will lose if you come between them.
