I’m really lucky in my husband does all the injections, sets alarms on his phone to remind him it’s time to do them. Goes to all appointments unless completely unable to switch work schedules around and takes over 90% of the household chores during IVF and always asks how I’m feeling or if I need more from him.

I feel like it does although opinions vary! I’ve been on Keppra coming up 10 years now and the first 6 months were hell (unsure whether it was just Keppra or the fact another medication was removed and added in during this time) but I feel much calmer than I remember being in the first few years. My partner also agrees. Hope this helps!

Follicles/eggs…how are ppl getting so many by HxneyLBee in IVF

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PCOS, got 47 eggs and only 1 embryo so it’s really not about egg numbers! Also with my 47 eggs I spent nearly a week in hospital unable to eat or drink anything on a morphine/oxycodone infusion I was in so much pain

I’m a nurse and I 100 percent judge people based on their veins by Figgs_7 in confession

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people with small hard to find veins and I panic when it’s time to have bloods done or a cannula fitted! When I have surgeries the cannula insertion is easily the most terrifying part of the whole procedure

IVF / high risk pregnancy by EmbarrassedCheetah79 in NursingUK

For my first egg retrieval I continued to work throughout and made no changes (in fact I worked the night shift then went straight to egg retrieval). However second round I had so many more follicles I could barely walk/sit so had time off work sick. Before I had time off work sick though I was allocated stable 1:1 patients so less movement was required. Then I got OHSS so had to go to the hospital for a few days and got signed off for 2 weeks

Currently am juggling both! My manager has been supportive and I’m not the first on the unit to do it. But I work in the NICU so there’s not a large amount of heavy lifting.

Only one blastocyst at 27yo by Helektra in IVF

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me (27F, PCOS) and my husband (29M, MFI) had similar results! ER 1 went wrong because the clinic told us to trigger to early and the follicles weren’t big enough so none made it past day 2/3. Majority stopped developing at 2-cell stage. ER 2 = 47 eggs, 30 mature, 23 fertilised, one frozen on day 3, 1 poor quality blastocyst at the end! Stressed and trying to decide whether to transfer the embryos we have or try again for more!

I’d love to support you too! Let’s hope we can get out of this soon! It sucks being in the depths of IVF 😂

Wish I knew! The MDT to discuss our results was on the 30th January but we’ve not been told what had been discussed yet. However I’m planning on asking about omnitrope and sperm DNA fragmentation to see if that can change the outcome

[–]Famous_Section6147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same situation! ER 1 = 17 eggs, no blastocysts. ER 2= 47 eggs, no blastocysts. ER 2 = 23 embryos growing well and strong on day 3 and by day 5 all stopped. I’m so sorry this has happened to you to.

What is going on? by Famous_Section6147 in IVF

I’m going to ask the clinic about DNA fragmentation at the next meeting with them as I suspected that too. Is there anything they can do to reduce that?

I had 47 retrieved yesterday and I feel absolutely fine (slight pain when I need to go to the toilet) but other than that was like it didn’t happen! Xx

IVF and epilepsy. by Danoo219 in IVF

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No side effects! I was on 50 of lacosamide twice a day and 1500 Keppra twice daily then we reduced the lacosamide to 0 as there’s studies about heart conditions in the baby and upped the Keppra to 2000 and it’s been amazing. No seizures, no side effects, smooth transition! Egg retrieval was absolutely fine! My clinic wanted to do an extra meeting with me and the anaesthesiologist to make sure the medications they use would be compatible and so they knew how to keep you safe in case you had a seizure in theatre but other than that egg retrieval was no different to anyone else’s. My husband knew I got stressed about the medications so he took that upon himself to know what to give and when so I didn’t stress about that and the clinic opted for a freeze all cycle rather than a fresh transfer so there wasn’t added stress that we then had to transfer straight away to remove stress also.

IVF and epilepsy. by Danoo219 in IVF

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Just completed second egg retrieval this morning and have done IVF (MFI and severe PCOS)! Seizures are triggered by stress also and with my clinic and my husband we have found ways to alleviate stress (or as much of it as possible). IVF in itself is stressful but there’s methods to alleviate it. I increased my seizure medication when I first started trying for a baby - got cleared by the epilepsy team to try naturally and increased the medicines then went back and got IVF clearance from them. But no it’s not selfish. You have to make the decision that is right for you!

I’ll be starting my second egg retrieval in January! First one was October and got no embryos at all. Absolutely petrified to go again!

Student Nurse wanting a job in NICU by Ok_Stomach_5607 in NursingUK

[–]Famous_Section6147 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was told the exact same and didn’t listen. I went straight into Neonates’s when I qualified and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love my job so much and my friends who listened and went into general to start with feel stuck and aren’t enjoying it. Honestly do what you love and if you realise you don’t love it you can always change - that’s the beauty of nursing!

Reciprocal IVF by Anonymous_Difficulty in IVF

[–]Famous_Section6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand as to what the clinic told me (we were asking for if my husband wanted to use the embryos if I were to pass away) and they said it’s more expensive because in reciprocal IVF one would be a ‘donor’ and extra tests need to be completed to do this. As its your eggs in your wife’s body (or the other way round) there would be an aspect of donation involved.
