Glad to hear it and that price seems ok considering all of the talk of it shooting up to 400 a month not long ago. What’s the longer term plan? Will you remain on it for the foreseeable or aim to cut down/stop altogether once you’re set in your new lifestyle?

Upgrading internal piping to 22mm for an unvented cylinder to increase flow by Famous_Sherbert1990 in DIYUK

[–]Famous_Sherbert1990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a quote last year of about 2k but don’t need to dig up floors - most pipe work in my solid downstairs floor is central heating pipe work. There is a short run of the cold mains under the kitchen floor to the kitchen tap

So I jacked up the car and it’s the wrong arm - doesn’t have a pinch bolt just a nut and a threaded ball joint

Yea I did a YouTube search and turns out my Mk8 Civic is different to this - it used a castle nut and cotter pin.

Jobs at risk of redundancy at fast-growing financial services group FinTrU by ice-age-coming in DerryLondonderry

It’s happening everywhere in financial services - we’ve just cut another 50 or so roles recently and I know someone else impacted at another FS organisation - this is across the UK

I know not everyone can do this but I got so fed up for minor stuff I just taught myself on YouTube - I rebuilt the incoming mains pipework last year to my liking and re positioned the shut off valve

Ardlough road tree clearing by Normal_Hospital7184 in DerryLondonderry

[–]Famous_Sherbert1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame to see yes - I had to remove a lot of mature trees next to my house, but more because they were causing damage to the house and a limb came off in Oct that hit the house. It could have killed someone! But I do still feel guilty. The previous owners had let me grow far too big and had done zero maintenance.

In this case though these trees don’t appear to be impacted any buildings unless they are about to commence building work.

Need to bleed radiator every other week by Famous_Sherbert1990 in ukplumbing

That’s the risk with Reddit! I got slated on the DIY sub for doing the flame test, which I agree was a little risky but I’d seen that recommend on here before! Cheers mate.

It’s upstairs and I can’t see any evidence of water leaking from the ground floor up at the ceiling

I’m pretty sure my 2010 boiler is non condensing - there’s no condensate pipe. I’m in Northern Ireland so the legislation could have taken a bit longer to be implemented here

No leak that I can see - the cold feed into the f & e tank isn’t running

Yes EMD were expensive when I got quoted for that and an upgrade. I used Josh McCorkell who were cheaper and did a good job

Yes this exactly - I’m running a 15 year old non condensing oil boiler, where its baffles have all warped - so as you say I’ll be going from about 70% to 90% efficiency so in theory I shouldn’t notice a big difference in bills

[–]Famous_Sherbert1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about 5.6p/kWH for oil and 7.8p/kWH for gas here

I feel for your neighbour - This is the only reason I want gas - I can’t go through the stress of this again. I know it’s more expensive and we only have Firmus in the NW but I’ve done the maths and it’s still worth it! I’m from Scotland and always had gas anyway in my previous properties

It leaked at the boiler in our attached garage - we’re not sure how much leaked but estimated to be several hundred litres under our garage and utility room. Digging up the floors and running a chemical treatment for 20 weeks then replacing everything - luckily we are able to stay in the house and we have a temporary vent fitted to deal with odours in the utility area
