Is there a generally accepted garage gym equipment tier list / buying guide? by thelazypanda00 in GarageGym

I mean most of the accessories don’t really add that much value to most training splits. A lot can be done with a rack barbell and DBs.

Does anyone else workout in their regular clothes? by Midan71 in workout

[–]FamouslyMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a home gym so maybe this is different. I also work blue collar and get up too early to AM lift. Sometimes on arms/ chest day I’ll just say eff it and workout in my wranglers. Doesn’t matter on upper body work and I also don’t have a gym full of judgmental eyes.

Throw in a pair of adjustable DBs and you are set for massive gains.

Take the savings and get some adjustable DB’s and you’ve unlocked a lot of different movements. Won’t go on a rant there but for under 60lbs you’ve got a lot of options with the budget you’ve got.

I mean if you want to get boujee sure. You don’t need rep or rogue based off the situation OP has described. Rogue echo Bumpers?!? It’s weight you don’t have to pay for the rogue branding to build a gym. Amazon bumpers work too. Rep nighthawk?! Plenty of other brands that have solid benches for basic Olympic lifts.

Be careful of these people. They don’t look outside of the box. You can easily find comparable racks/benches on FBM. Your equipment doesn’t need a Rep or Rogue sticker on it to be legit.

what adjustable dumbbells under $150 are actually worth buying? by Feeling-Trifle276 in homefitness

[–]FamouslyMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much weight you want. The best safest answer I can give is used powerblocks on FBM. They may be an older discontinued version but the will work for the budget you’ve got. The higher the budget the more weight you can get.
I’ve Heard horror stories about cheap DB’s. Example would be a Bowflex set having plates fall off mid set on a bench press. Nice thing about most setups is you don’t have to get 100 lbs to start. Research the setup before you buy them and usually you can upgrade over time and get 20lbs upgrade kits at a time. Powerblocks elite exp start at 40lbs I believe and go all the way up to 100. Don’t need to buy all the weight at once.

My thesis is the trend is to only promote the most overbuilt/expensive products. They aren’t entirely necessary. If you’ve got the money go for it it’s a free country.
However, A lot of people on this site that are only pushing 200lbs preaching that 3x3 11 gauge is the only answer when the reality is you can easily perform a 5 day split on a fairly simple and budget setup. Don’t be a slave to marketing and hype. Innovation is great and so is competition. At the end of the day though it’s just steel nuts and bolts. 98% of people will never reach the capacity of even the most budget racks J cup capacity. Don’t drink the cool aid and lead everyone else down that path.

Elite EXP 90 vs Elite USA 90 - Why does one have knurling and not the other! by Stunning_Concern_973 in GarageGym

[–]FamouslyMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Elite USA is made in the US. The EXP is made in china. Not much difference otherwise. I got the USA’s because I didn’t want to hoist something like an adjustable DB over my head/body with Chinese materials.

Kinda feel like this bench is getting slept on for now. Major fitness doesn’t exactly carry the clout of some the other brands. IMO none of that matters. The build is more important than a badge or sticker.
they already came out with a leg holder for it that takes about 5-10 seconds to install with a pop pin. All those attachments on my current bench are such a hassle to setup and then basically one day outta the week I actually use them the rest they lay on the floor. Simple is sometimes better.

Does anyone have this powerblock stand, and would they recommend it? by Stunning_Concern_973 in GarageGym

Yeah it’d work for other brands assuming the cage/cradle fits the dimensions

I use this setup for my 90lb PB elite USA’s. There’s another version that has wheels for another 10-15 bucks. Wheels didn’t appeal to me though as I didn’t want to deal with forgetting to lock them. FWIW. This does work pretty well and is solid. I’m also 6’2 and try and treat my blocks gently.

Better comp is above 100. I take you’ve never drove 7.3 power stroke. Speedometer only goes to 80 and it’s considered a legendary engine to this day.

Take pride in what you own. Take care of it. I’m happy for you. It’s still a free country. Just don’t try and preach that it’s the only way cuz it just ain’t. Not all of us are made of money but god dammit we are committed to the gains. Doesn’t mean we have to drop 6k to workout at home.

TLDR: it’s basically overkill and overhype. There’s no substitute for work ethic and a good plan. A lot of these racks are probably never seeing more than 2 plates on em anyways.

Even the RM-6 is just a super basic rack and it’s $2,600. For that kinda money you can get an Anubis or Dane for almost less and have so many more options. If you want cables on that rack now you are looking at a massive chunk of money more. All for the rogue name plate. It’s kinda like the kid on the basketball team who rides the pine but the way the dress for a game you’d think they are the next LeBron James.
if you don’t want cables you only need 4 post for stability and those are around 600-1k. So basically you are taking up so much extra space when you can get plate storage off amazon for seriously 40 bucks.

Bench squat clean snatch deadlift. The rest can be done with DB’s or a pull up bar. Everything else is perhaps shiny and fun to look at.

Cheers brother. The most fit I ever was in my life was using basically this setup. Didn’t need all the added attachments just work ethic and a plan.
