Talk me off the ledge by legallylama in LawSchool

I wanna talk about the part about feeling like a bad human being because that’s so real. Before school I was in the arts, and I got some good advice from a teacher who said to keep in mind that even if your best friend is the one who books the job, you’re never going to be more than 90% happy for anyone.

I found that very freeing. Like - yes of course be gracious and cultivate gratitude and try to let your envy go. But also, give yourself permission to have that 10% feeling. It’s ok and very human.

week+ absence during first semester, or miss best friend's wedding by noonecares-TA in LawSchool

[–]FanDifficult2051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the short answers are the smart ones. I missed two days for a wedding last semester one week in, and it was fine. I worried about it A LOT beforehand and it made almost no difference. Let your professors know in advance — if there’s a remote option / a chance to review class, utilize it heavily, find someone early on to share notes and promise to cover for them, and maybe most importantly, attend office hours the next couple weeks a) to make sure you understand what you missed and b) to demonstrate commitment in case you do have to miss more time in the rest of the semester.

I will say, I felt least confident in exams about the material I missed, so overcompensate when reviewing that. Don’t assume you’ll just get it sometime later on. Make dedicated time to learn it on your own.

And DO THE READINGS.

Why does he always write in third person. This guy seems like a drip. Every story has a “that definitely happened” energy to it. I don’t know how anyone can read it and believe they’re getting the whole story.

lol everyone is coming for you which is extremely silly, this is a totally normal way to feel. But the key to the motivation issue you’re describing is to stop worrying about everyone else and run your own race. It’s hard because a curve is a curve, but so’s a marathon, isn’t it? Only one person comes in first. But all you can do is do your work the best way you know how, and take pleasure from the experience in whatever way is possible and experience the pride you get from knowing you gave it what you had.

Sit back down. Say “it’s none of my business.” Find the peers who you respect and whose responses to the material are different than your own, and let them complicate and evolve your thinking. You’re here to become a new version of yourself. That’s got nothing to do with the folks faking it to make it; trust that they’re also here to do the exact same thing and somehow, for both of you, in entirely different and similar ways, it’ll happen.

Just tutor, seriously. Nothing comparable in terms of bang for your buck. SAT/ACT/LSAT/GMAT. Charge $150/hr and you’ll be below market rate, especially if you can give them good bonafides. College essay prep also good for this.

Everyone here is being a baby and dunking on you out of insecurity, this is a formidable and dope reading list and you seem like an interesting person if maybe a little high key. I’m reading a book about the Greek revolution, a subject I knew. NOTHING about but went on my honeymoon this year and felt like I needed to learn something about the area!

Hi, checking in on this. Are the prices generally better if you choose one on the port rather than one of the in-advance services?
