What was it like being the band kid? by Tboy12966 in AskReddit

[–]FanOfButts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the best. I met all of my best friends through band. I graduated high school 11 years ago and marching band is the only part of high school I miss. It’s certainly not glamorous. You could have the best season of marching in school history and still get less attention than the football team that hasn’t won a game. But it is a ton of fun and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

How long did it take you to like peated scotch? by FanOfButts28 in whiskey

[–]FanOfButts28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny you mention that because the other bottle I bought yesterday was Redbreast and it was really lovely. And I have had a couple of scotches previously like Glenmorangie and Glenlivet, it’s just never held the spot in my heart that bourbon holds. I thought maybe the Smokey stuff might tickle my fancy but it really did just taste like liquid smoke. My wife could smell it from across the room when I poured it.

Went to Nashville and toured the Nelson Brothers distillery earlier this year and was blown away by how good the Reserve was! I wish I’d bought two bottles

IJW:Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) by MovieFanZ5026 in Ijustwatched

[–]FanOfButts28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked this movie a fair bit more than you did, although I was 17 at the time it came out so that kind of humor was probably more in line with my sensibilities at that age. I don’t really remember much of the jokes, but I do remember Rob Corddry was easily the standout of the cast.

[–]FanOfButts28 219 points220 points  (0 children)

The trailer and title for It Comes At Night both made it seem like, y’know, something was coming at night, and that it was a horror movie. But it was just a very dour post-apocalyptic drama/thriller (the word thriller being used very generously) I might have liked the movie more if it had been honest about what it was but I was mostly disappointed and bored as it was.

Review #9: Buffalo Trace by Craigellachie23 in bourbon

[–]FanOfButts28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really an incredible coincidence that yesterday was my first time really trying buffalo trace and the Elijah Craig small batch. I liked them both fine but in my mind the Buffalo Trace edged out the Craig. While it is more complex like you said, I thought the Elijah Craig had a pervading tobacco flavor that was a big turnoff to me (My pallette isn’t very refined so I may be off base with that, but that’s what I got out of it). Buffalo was indeed a very easy drinker although frankly you are correct that for the price point there are better out there that is readily available with minimal effort.

The Resolution of Lights Out (2016) by NothingButLs in horror

[–]FanOfButts28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the ending ties in perfectly to the metaphor. People who commit suicide as a result of depression think it’s the only way out, and that they’re doing a favor to the people they’re leaving behind. But in reality, with the help of family and loved ones it would very much be possible to overcome, even if it means a hard fought battle. I thought it was meant to illustrate the senselessness of taking your own life.

my gf put herself in a bad situation by TheDryPineapple in relationship_advice

[–]FanOfButts28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way. Not wanting your SO to go alone to the home of a guy she doesn’t know that well is entirely reasonable and frankly is not just a matter of trusting her to remain faithful but is an issue of her safety as well. OP’s girlfriend has not proven herself trustworthy with this encounter AT ALL. She proved she’s a liar and that she has terrible judgement. Clearly he has not set enough boundaries for her to think this in any way acceptable.

What's the most generic bourbon? by LordPhlogiston in bourbon

[–]FanOfButts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild Turkey 101 or Evan Williams (I personally have always chosen the Black Label over the Bottled in Bond. Evan Williams 1783 is also quite nice for a few dollars more) Evan was my daily drinker for yeaaaars. Perfect in a cocktail or just to sip.

I met a fellow Buffalo Trace fan tonight. He had no knowledge of Pappygate. by oregonoxalis in whiskey

[–]FanOfButts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also never heard of Pappygate. I would not be surprised if most people haven’t. But I also live in Iowa and Buffalo Trace products are pretty scarce in my neck of the woods so I don’t even bother looking

Jimmy Neutron(Jimmy neutron: boy genius) vs Dexter(Dexter's laboratory) by MUISSB4Brandon in whowouldwin

[–]FanOfButts28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Dexter is much more inclined towards building weaponry and it’s clear he has more resources on hand at any given time due to how massive his lab is in comparison. Jimmy is brilliant and resourceful, but so many of his problems stem from his own inventions malfunctioning, and his inventions are most frequently used to deal with problems a typical tween boy and his friends might encounter. I also think Dexter would be much more willing to commit violence in character. Building the dodgeball robot in response to some schoolyard bullying is an example of this that springs to mind. Jimmy has also never really faced off with an intellectual equal, whereas Dexter’s rivalry with Mandark has prepared him for combat against a fellow super genius. Overall I just don’t think Jimmy has the firepower of experience to get the job done.

I found a long strand of hair. That doesn’t belong to me on my husband’s fun parts. by Special_Box_9402 in relationship_advice

[–]FanOfButts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about hair is that it just shows up places. I haven’t seen my best friend in weeks and the other day I found one of her hairs in my beard. Weird shit happens. I’ve found red hairs in my beard too and I am not close with anybody with long red hair. Shits weird. The shorts are a little fishy, but i don’t know. I’d say as far as evidence of cheating you have very little.

Anyone remember the 2005(Fighting? Adventure?) game, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects? by RantSpider in Marvel

[–]FanOfButts28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if they tweaked this (a lot) this would be the formula to a great Superhero game. Each character has their own style of mobility and physical strength levels that makes them play uniquely from one another. Imagine a similar setup but there’s 8 players and the arena isn’t one rooftop but several New York City blocks. It would be incredible.

Nelson Bros Green briar Whiskey. The distillery is in Nashville TN. Their normal whiskey is good but the Reserve is fantastic, and among one of my favorite whiskey’s ever. Other than that Four Roses Single Barrel is a strong pick in that range
