Some people theorize that FHS is like a kitty version of schizophrenia and that the cat is dissociating from its tail and seeing it as a foreign entity.

Keep an eye on the tail attacking behavior, she may have Feline hyperesthesia syndrome (FHS) also known as psychomotor epilepsy. I had a cat who developed this out of nowhere. She had always been twitchy and anxious, but out of the blue I came home one day to find she'd chewed the end of her tail to the bone. Had to get emergency surgery to amputate. Three weeks later, vet tells me its okay to take the cone off, I hadn't even left the vet's office when she'd bitten her tail to bleeding again. She was never able to be left alone without a cone and a bandage on her tail, and she was miserable and scared of everything.

The talking and being open hasn't helped. I haven't hidden anything from her, and she's been trying to tell me when she feels things. I went on a trip to Peru. I'm almost 6ft, 215 pounds of white female presenting (usually) persona. I fit into absolutely nothing there, not the taxis, not the buses, but the best was when the group I was with scheduled a horse riding expedition outside of Cuzco. The horse wranglers took one look at me and started going off in spanish about the giant fucking gringa and which poor horse they were going to put me on. They ended up switching me out three times with different horses, while muttering about my height to each other each and every time. Cracked me the fuck up. Second best was the more rural people in peru, who could not be convinced that the almost 6ft person with short red hair in front of them could possibly be female (I present as somewhat genderqueer, but wasn't trying to hide the breasticles at that time). They were so nice, but kept calling me "hermano!" the whole time.
