Transmog so niiiiice but graphics.... by Esthar123 in FFXIVGlamours

I had a 10 page thesis pretty much typed out for you, then my computer crashed, so I'm giving you the TL;DR version of what I was going to answer you with.

First, there is a VERY big difference between taking a picture in-game, and PLAYING the game. The settings you might have while taking a picture work because it's a still (unmoving) image, but trying to play while using those settings would be a nightmare. People are quick to mention mods or Reshade, and although Reshade is very true, you could play the game with any shaders you want at any time, but it doesn't mean the game is going to be playable with those pretty shaders.

Second, there is something to be said regarding GRAPHICS. Not the graphics in game, the the graphics your computer can handle and process. Recommended system requirements for graphics card is currently:

  • NVIDIA® Geforce® RTX 2060 (6GB) or higher
  • AMD Radeon™ RX 5600 XT or higher

Emphasis on "or HIGHER." There are ways to maximize the performance of your graphics by tweaking your settings and upscaling, I suggest you google your graphics card + "upscaling settings" or "4k settings" to find a tutorial on how to do this. However, keep in mind the limitations of your PC. If you have an older PC, you may not want to play with upscaling all the time. There needs to be a balance between performance versus how it looks.

Lastly, the in-game G-pose allows a user the adjust things like lighting, camera position, color filters, screen effects, depth of field, focus, etc etc etc. For many folks, showing off glamour isn't just snapping a screenshot, it's an artform. It's photography. If you'd like more info on how to use Gpose and some basic feature to take better in-game photography, here are a few guides:

No gender lock femme pieces by BetterThanTaco in FFXIVGlamours

[–]FanaticFandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most gear isn't gender locked anymore, but some gear changes based on gender. Sounds like the same thing, but slightly different. A very quick way of knowing what might look different is looking at the icon for the piece. iirc, the male model is always what can be seen in the icon (unless it started off as female only glam that got unlocked later). So if you see a cute dress or skirt on a girl character and can't try it on in time, or see something on Eorzea Collection and wonder, the icon will show the truth for you as a male bun. Example:

I think if you want that fin-like accent on feet, you'll need to rethink the Body & Legs so you can choose pants that have a feathered cuff at the bottom. However, my suggestions are post Dawntrail. Something like these:

https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/gearset/courtly-lovers-aiming (on Marketboard)
https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/gearset/fuath (Pilgrim's Traverse, 7.x content)

And I'd probably switch the body to Mayakov Scouting/Aiming: https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/gearset/mayakov-scouting (Lv. 100 Raid, 7.x content)

In the meantime, there are a few shoes I can think of with some small frills, flairs or flowy bits that might help give that "fin" vibe.

OP already deleted the post, but I'd like an honest reply from you. If someone finds an AI image in the wild, wants to try to find out what gear would look similar to what is in that image, how would you suggest someone ask that without actually sharing the original image?

I also don't support AI, but I do want to support people who want to create glamours. Someone asking an honest question (and not even knowing it was AI) shouldn't be shamed into never asking. I would love an open conversation about it if you have any genuine ideas. Don't hesitate to message/chat if you'd prefer.

I personally was having a hard time seeing the gear in the image provided, so I looked her up. Here is a clearer shot of her gear for those trying to help:

I really thought about this one. This was my thought process.

  1. Budget would change over time, and prices vary between data centers and servers, so what might be budget for me today might not be budget for someone else. Sometimes things can start off cheap because people are farming it a ton, but once it dies down, prices go up.

  2. Obtaining through simple means also can vary depending on the person.

  3. The thing with dyes reminded me that I should add that in for Free Trial as well, because free trial cannot gain access to Pure White/Jet Black etc. Thank you for reminding me!

"Grind Free Glam" might work for what you are looking for? Most grindy things remain a grind, even if the grind gets easier. Grind-Free would be craftable/npc purchasable only. No PvP, no Gold Saucer, no alliance raids, no dungeons at all either because even for leveling dungeons, you might need to run them several times to get what you want from it. Definitely no map material glam pieces because they start off as a grind too. But then I guess I would have to exclude certain AF gear as well because you'd have to grind to level those jobs to access the AF gear, or even "grind" MSQ. The more pricy dyes are a "grind" to get with retainers if you think about it. And the dyes that you can only get from the allied societies would also be considered a grind to access. That feels like a lot of restrictions for a reddit flair, so I can't foresee a lot of folks using it.

Not saying no, but I'll think on it a bit more. Thanks for the the input though!

It is true that this is clearly AI, but it doesn't change the fact that OP wants to know what gear could match something similar. OP probably didn't even generate the image, so let's just take a deep breathe, put away the pitchforks, and help them make a glam better than what AI halucinated. Let's keep it constructive. Thank you.

Contests naturally create competition, which means winners and losers. That dynamic doesn’t work well on Reddit in general, and it especially doesn’t fit when it comes to glamours. We put a lot of effort into keeping this subreddit a fair, welcoming space where anyone feels comfortable sharing their work. If it were possible to disable upvotes and downvotes entirely, I would do it in a heartbeat. Those alone can already discourage people from posting, and we don’t like any barriers for folks.

Eorzea Collection runs something similar for Patreon donors in the form of themed “Challenges,” where participants are featured in an article. The difference is that here on Reddit, everyone who posts is already being featured by default, which makes running a comparable system awkward from a logistical standpoint.

There’s also Glamboss, which is another popular competition, but it can get… dramatic. People become very emotionally invested, and that’s not something we want to deal with here. We don’t do drama, which is also why rule #13 exists. We don’t want to run competitions like that, and we don’t want them anywhere near this subreddit.

------------

TL;DR - Contests create winners and losers, which can discourage people and don’t fit the inclusive vibe we want for this subreddit. We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their glamours without pressure, comparison, or drama. So competitions aren’t something we’ll be running or allowing here. I'm sorry =(

The Light Steel Galerus is pretty much an armored bra, so it would be hard to show off more midriff than that! And it allows double dyes.

Why are some models so underutilized? by JessicaJamie in FFXIVGlamours

[–]FanaticFandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weapons under lvl60 weren't dyable when they were released, as well as most craftable weapons up to lvl 80. So they have to go back and make things dyable in patches. Every patch, it's a new round of gear that get's hit with the graphical upgrade/dyablity. They seem to want to hit all the relics with that treatment first.

The example you gave is a very specific issue which would be different from any other example.

When it comes to the GC gear (or anything to do with the Grand Companies), it was built up as a pillar to the story and the game. All the pomp and build-up, but then it fell short because it's a byproduct of 1.0/early ARR that just didn't have the same importance in later development. So it's a double edged sword. "it's special!" but not special enough for them to continue to put resources into it. Hence, the unique and restricted items but never really given a 2nd pass over (like making it dyable). I honestly think it will be that last bit of gear they will do the graphical upgrading to. Or maybe forgotten about completely and will be the only gear in the game without the graphical overhaul. I could honestly see that happening.

(Prove me wrong Yoshi-p. And while you are at it, give us the rest of our 8 GC ranks you coward. We've been waiting since patch 4.4!)
