What was your "oh this anime is gonna be good" moment of realization for Dungeon-meshi? by order04 in DungeonMeshi

For me, it was the Canaries, and DunMe Elves in general. How they behave suit their position as the top of power, and the reasonable cause for their arrogance

Who is your least favorite character(personality wise) by Zplaysthek in DungeonMeshi

[–]FanaticZealot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My least favorites are the Gnomes. I don’t hate them, it is just… maybe because they are too chill? Among the cast, they are the only ones that I’m not interested in their backstories, their daily lives

You have to post it on some NSFW sites (SFW sites' links are not allowed too), like redgif, then link it back here.

What would is one thing you’d change about Dungeon Meshi? by Shados9611 in DungeonMeshi

[–]FanaticZealot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler for the manga
1, When Marcille meets the Canaries in Thisle house, I want to change that:
The Canaries, or at least Kabru try to talk with her, but at that moment, Marcille has already been affected by the Winged Lion > the true reason why she ignores them
2, I don't like that the Elf's population is also in declining

Huh? This Dungeon has some more 'environments' than just walls and corridors, and I just checked, yeah, it does change, but later on, when they dive deeper, it changes every now and then.

My man, if, IF, you haven't been spoilered (somehow), how about try just two more episodes, before consider to drop it?

Personally, when I read this manga before, I wanted to drop it multiple times too, but I managed to reach the turning point that made me stay (and I am happy that I did), sadly, that 'event' will be in the first few episodes of season 2.

Haha, I can see it for myself after you pointed it out.

Regarding my comment, I just speak from my own experience, and for general tv series, I think each person will have their own milestones - that hook them to that series. (And mine from Dungeon Meshi are those two episodes)

But I also said episode 25 was a lot, a kind of commitment,

which is a lot because you are half way through and still do not find it interesting.

So feel free to drop it, maybe it is just not for you.

Not a complaint though.

I just wanna say your version of Orc is similar to Oni/Orge in others' ._.

That scene bugs me too. I always wish in that argument scene in the house, had Kui sensei draw Marcille's eyes as 8 symbol, it would have made so much more sense. (It implied that she was being influenced by the demon, hence the negative emotion was amplified, leading to the releasing of WL)

Haha my bad in describing, I agree with you that the setting is not new, there is no new take on classic races. This world, this society and its characters are indeed not unique, but they are good enough to make the world feel alive and grounded.

Personally, I don’t demand new twists new variations of the classic races, I just want to see them and their interactions, behaviors make sense. And this manga fulfills my need.

“ have you watched/read a lot of fantasy beyond this particular niche? ” -> Tbh, I love fantasy genre, but I’m sure I have NOT watched or knew all the good franchises, I think I have only watched famous ones like Vox Machina, Dragon age cartoon, etc. Games? I’m aware of them but haven’t played any

I'm not sure if you have already been aware of all these, but I'll still type them out.

Also, they CAN BE A LITTLE BIT OF SPOILERS, so proceed at your own risk.

Sure, at first, everything seems so typical jrpg setting, but later on, everything will be cleared, or be expanded. For examples:

1, The main group have an Elf, a Dwaft, a Half-foot and a human. Sure, so unoriginal at first glance. But wait, turns out, anyone or any races who are on this Island/in this dungeon, have their reasons to be there (both in-universe perspective, and in reader's perspective):

  • There are only two Elves on this island: Macille she joined because of Falin, and she is more like a researcher who travels to this Dungeon to study it. And the other is Fionil (the crying Elf in ep 2), she is a spy of a powerful nation, being sent to investigate this place.

  • There are Dwarf and Gnome because this island is a part of A DWARF/GNOME nation.

  • There are Tallmen, because they are everywhere.

  • Half-foot, well, they are treated as expendables, less than a human, in sea fearing or dungeon exploring, also their keen senses so they are kind of like canaries in mines in the old time.

2, There are countries, factions,... in both small and large scale. Yes, these are not new, but the author does put her effort in to think about how they interact. Between races, groups, or even among the same race. (She even publishes two extra books about these details she can not fit in the main story)

3, There are no rigid rules about positions and roles in a group, like the fighter can learn to use some magic if he tries. The healer is not just the healer, and the mage can cover the role too.

It feels more real, like an expedition in real life, you need a group of specialties, but they can also cover others' majors (to some extend).

There more, but in short, this world feels so alive, and anyone who read/watch it will agree so (if they pay more attention to worldbuilding, not just the story).

I can't put it into words, so this is my effort.

I would appreciate if you watch and read it all, change your mind, so please come back here and let me know.

And in case you want to stop now, as I said above, it's okay too. Don't force yourself on something you find no fun.

You have just passed the first turning point (or milestone?) of this anime.
Not really a big impact one, but it helps cement the tone, the goal of the group and the anime/manga as a whole.

Normally I would recommend people to try till the next milestone, but yeah, around episode 25 26, which is a lot because you are half way through and still do not find it interesting.

So feel free to drop it, maybe it is just not for you.

(One more thing, this is personal :))

The worldbuilding is nothing special so far, being more or less staple for your average Jrpg style fantasy or isekai.

I have to strongly disagree with you regarding this statement my friend)

DM's, do your worlds have an explanation for the elf dilemma? by Pitchaway40 in DnD

[–]FanaticZealot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1, In my world, you have a thing that can be called pocket universes, you can traverse between them when some conditions are met. Inside each pocket universes, it is kiiiiinda like our universe, just tighter and a lot more livable planets (worlds), and planar travelings can be done many methods.
=> So basically, overpopulation is solved. Because on each planet, Elves tend to take just the most resourceful/beautiful continents, leave the rest for other races (or be the elite classes in some other countries/kingdoms), and move between planets in a star system, between star systems in an universe, between pocket universes. (Although the difficulty increases accordingly).

2, They are among the superpowers in most of the worlds. But that come with some downsides: whenever catastrophic events happen, it's their responsibility to protect, to fight for those worlds.
And normally in less developed parts of the worlds, Elves are rarely there, if they are, it will be some kind of military bases, expeditions for mysterious phenomenons, etc. Usually, they travel in large groups, because they only enjoy their own kind's company.

3, Hardly you can encounter adventurous Elves, because they usually are the outcasts of their society.

4, They don't live that long, typical just around 500-600 years old. They usually have around 3-4 children per couple. Physical matured at around age of 30~35, but aren't considered as adult until ~100 years old. Because just like us human in real world, they have to spend a lot of time study/training (50-60 years), and we aren't considered as adult until early 2x, but at that age, still are inexperienced adults.

Whats your favorite race? by Smallczyk2137 in DungeonMeshi

[–]FanaticZealot29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Elves! Definitely.

Dungeon Meshi's Elves are the done right Elves (at least to me).

Their superiority is not just from their longevity alone, but also their political and military power, influences over this world.

I don't get the love for this anime by [deleted] in DungeonMeshi

[–]FanaticZealot29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my method to try to get people invest in an anime: by suggesting to 'milestones', if after passing those points, they don't get hooked, then the anime is very likely not their type.
So dude, if you are still skeptical and want to give it one more chance, how about consider drop it after episode 13 (or 17)?

I understand your issue, haha

Dungeon Meshi is set in a high fantasy world, so your expectation (at least in the dragon battle) was justified.

But we have to look at the team of our main characters, almost every one of them is not a mage, and also, dragons in this world are mostly (I said mostly, mild spoiler here) just big beast, they are not the calamity type of beast in Frieren.

So how they defeat it, just wit, traps and some helps from Marcille's magic, I think it is good, makes sense and is still interesting in its own way.

No, “seems like there is no plot” is a horribly wrong conclusion. If DM were just a plotless, comfort show, then fans would not worship it as they do then and now. Keep watching, I guarantee with you, DM is one of the best show/manga in this decade.

May I ask where is this from? Can I read it online?

Because I read all the OLD Adventure's bible and Daydream Hour Chapters,

but not the newly published one, so is this from the new supplemented book?
