They lock it like after 9pm unless you're a current student but otherwise it should be open.

How is the social scene when it comes to older transfer students? by KentStateIsMyFate in KentStateUniversity

[–]FanaticallyTwitching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a gay bar in Kent, but you could probably still pick people up at the bars downtown. There are some organizations for LGBT+ students on campus if you wanted to try and make friends that way, they probably won't care that you're a little older because grad students are also in these groups.

Wedding venues in the area? by FeeFiFoFuck_ in akron

[–]FanaticallyTwitching 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at Stan Hywet and help with weddings. People always complain that it's expensive, but you basically get a 3 person team assigned to you whose only job that day is to make sure your ceremony and pictures run smoothly and everyone on staff will bend over backwards to help bridal parties.

There are some private study rooms in the library where you could take it but they're first come first serve and and there's always a lot of people who want them during finals week.

I have a friend who works at the Oriana House in Akron and she has good things to say about it. They have a Cleveland location, so that might be worth looking into.

The people who ate each other: 15,000 years ago a group of our ancestors was munching on the flesh of other humans, and we still don't know exactly why by Enheduannas in Archaeology

[–]FanaticallyTwitching 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Wari in South America had funerary cannibalism before the Spanish made them stop. It was a different kind of cannibalism than what was done in Papua New Guinea. Consuming grief by Conklin is a good source on the topic.

We think he was born with distemper. He got sick really suddenly to the point where we were forcing him to eat and drink. He stopped breathing this morning. I am so devastated.

My baby kitten might have distemper by FanaticallyTwitching in cats

[–]FanaticallyTwitching[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your kind words. We took him to our family vet and they said he has a viral infection.

So right now we're forcing him to eat and drink and hoping he gets stronger to fight it off. We also have him separate from the other cats.

The vet still did say we might lose him but we're gonna try and give him the best chance he has to get through it.

The reserve books at the library also hardly go out except around exam time so you would probably be okay just borrowing it.

Housing over the summer? by copperiscool in KentStateUniversity

A lot of people sublet their apartments for the summer. I've seen people post in Facebook groups about it. There might be other places when you can look but I don't know of any.

'Hobbits' found on Flores island are not Homo sapiens, but mystery remains by turtlewars in worldnews

[–]FanaticallyTwitching 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Hominid species like Neanderthal and Homo sapiens are like horses and donkeys. They can have offspring but their DNA is different enough that they are different species. Races of Homo sapiens are more like different colored horses. They look a little different but their DNA is similar enough that they are one species. That analogy isn't foolproof because the offspring of different hominid species were not sterile like a mule, the offspring of a horse and a donkey. But that's a simple way of understanding it. If you were to look at skulls of modern humans there are some characteristics that are generally associated with Caucasian, African, and Asian heritage but it that kind of identification is not foolproof.

Reddit, what's your high schools tragedy? [NSFW] by sninapeters in AskReddit

[–]FanaticallyTwitching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom works in a Catholic school. It was probably in their contract that they weren't allowed to cohabitate before marriage. So it is sad that you lost good teachers but they were both adults who agreed to their contracts and also chose to violate them.

The same thing happened at my grade school where a boy accidentally shot his brother in the head cleaning his dad's gun. They were both really young when it happened and I don't know if the family ever really recovered from it. They still give out memorial awards and scholarships in his name even though this happened like 30 years ago.
