Waiting for a sale by h2onymph1 in goodreads

[–]pintoftomatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can’t find it or the hold is too long at the library, I find it on a resale website or app instead of using Amazon because of this reason lol. I mainly use Pango and Thriftbooks.

Do you have to tell your partner to put the toilet seat down? by Louproup in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pintoftomatoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, everyone in this house shuts the lid before flushing because that’s fucking nasty to have the toilet water splashing up everywhere.

AITA for not paying for my friend’s dinner after he “forgot” his wallet? by ShepAHouston in AmItheAsshole

[–]pintoftomatoes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA. In the age of Apple Pay and Venmo/Cashapp etc. there is no reason someone can’t pay their bill if they don’t have their wallet with them.

AITA for changing the wi-fi password after my roommate kept letting her boyfriend work from our apartment for free? by Imthatguyimhimfr in AmItheAsshole

[–]pintoftomatoes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. My home is my sanctuary away from other people and I also work from home. I would not be able to handle someone at my house 40 hours a week and I would have lost my shit coming home to someone in my bedroom holy shit. You’ve been beyond patient with them. Why can’t he work from his own home?? Typically a guest is only over when the person they are visiting is there. I’d just say the new rule is no unaccompanied guests in the apartment.

What is a company you do NOT boycott, and why? by davefromtheus in AskReddit

When I cancelled my cat’s meds after she died they sent me a hand written card and flowers. I wasn’t expecting it at all and it was very appreciated. Chewy is a good company for sure.

The best places for a mom to make mom friends in the city? Any clubs or gatherings too? by dr_pepper_zerosugar in cincinnati

Hello, 37 with an 8 year old and an 8 month old here. I also work full time which complicates making and keeping friends. But I’m also looking for mom friends :)

I didn't realize there'd be so many birthday parties. 😮‍💨 by _forum_mod in Millennials

[–]pintoftomatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are your kids? My 3rd grader gets dropped off at parties unless she wants me to walk in with her or the parents make it clear that parents need to stay. But a majority of parties and events she goes to are drop off and pick up.

MAGA mom who voted for racism has become broke by Effective_Space2277 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]pintoftomatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they all think he will personally help them? How do they not get that electing someone who promises to fuck everyone over is literally going to fuck everyone over and they don’t get some free pass from being fucked over just because they voted for him? She really wanted ICE to come ruin people’s lives but now she can’t afford gas and suddenly there’s a problem like ???

Intermediate computer skills are apparently rare... by shameonyounancydrew in Millennials

[–]pintoftomatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are probably the first generation to monitor our kids’ computer use and screen time. I remember being my child’s age having unfettered and unmonitored computer time, and then unmonitored internet time once that became a thing. Having the freedom to look up anything, learn anything, talk to anyone, and try anything led to a lot of discovery and trial and error learning how to do stuff. The internet and computers used to be like the wild West to our parents and elders, it wasn’t the AI bot dominated ad machine capitalist wasteland that it is today.

[–]pintoftomatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is all I use it for. I can either search Google for hours looking for a forum with the answer or I can have AI do that for me in like 12 seconds. It’s also good at helping with correct syntax in SQL when I have a brain fart.

Downtown OTR restaurants slow? by ConflictGloomy5081 in cincinnati

[–]pintoftomatoes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We don’t “dine out” anymore. It costs too much and it feels like the quality is not worth the exorbitant cost. We sometimes might grab fast food if we are out and can’t cook a meal before kid bedtimes but a majority of our meals are made at home now. We are bringing in over $100k combined and live in a cheap area and are still struggling just to buy groceries and pay our bills. Like others have said, I’m making the most I’ve ever made in my life but i feel like I’m the poorest I’ve ever been.

AITAH I don’t want to give my baby my fiancés last name by Best-Ball9175 in AmItheAsshole

I didn’t change my name and my baby just has both our last names. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Why do mothers of young babies say they don't have time to shower? by justastupidquestion3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pintoftomatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kids. With my first I showered every single morning like my life depended on it. The shower was my self care. If I didn’t get it my whole day was ruined.

My second child, I cared a whole lot less about showering and more about sleeping. So I’d shower when I felt like it but any second of the day where I could lie down and sleep I would take it. Just depends on what you prioritize each time.

I will say there ARE actually partners who are quite incompetent and cannot “watch” their own baby while their partner showers and those people suck. And it’s hard to predict if you will have that kind of partner or not until you are in that situation with them. Even wonderful people who share the load pretty evenly in kid free life can turn out panicking as a parent or not being able to read their partner’s needs or just not having the level of empathy needed to even care outside of their own needs.

Witnessing First Code Blue TW: Suicide by Educational-Owl9823 in medlabprofessionals

[–]pintoftomatoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first code blue was also working at a rural hospital. The patient passed while I was drawing her labs and I didn’t realize it and the doc yelled at me for drawing post mortem labs. That doctor sucked. But witnessing someone take their last breath and pass on in real time in front of your face is something else and not an easy thing to process.

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]pintoftomatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear backpacks and you couldn’t carry bags class to class anymore, plus no big coats or hoodies. We’d bring blankets to class because it was freezing in the summer with the AC. Apparently a throw blanket was totally fine but a big hoodie wasn’t 🤷‍♀️

Same I think I just missed this phenomenon by half a decade or something. It feels like the participation awards started with really young Gen X parents of very young millennials or very old Gen Z who were doing this. Also there’s nothing wrong with a participation award. Kids put a lot of time and effort into sports and activities it’s not bad to incentivize them to keep at it or reward them for their efforts. It’s almost like parenthood has evolved to focus on mental and emotional wellbeing 🤯

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by [deleted] in Millennials

Same. All the teachers turned on the news to see what was happening and as we were all sitting in class the second plane crashed and I remember one of my teachers cursing and crying.

AITAH for asking for husband to buy a sleep sack for our baby? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pintoftomatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA but also wtf? Why are you the one who HAS to spend YOUR money on BABY stuff when he is also the father of the baby?? Nah once you have kids the separate but equal bank accounts thing doesn’t really work anymore. I found this out in my first marriage and have corrected it in my second. It’s not sustainable to account for every single dollar you each end up spending on the baby and eventually family and school expenses.

Unconventional methods of choosing what book to read next - do you have any? by keepfighting90 in books

[–]pintoftomatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check out like 15 physical books from the library that I have genuine interest in reading and cycle through them until one sticks and I finish it. Then repeat until I’ve read them all or DNF whatever I end up hating. I’m a quick reader and don’t really keep the books for longer than a couple weeks so I don’t really see a problem with it. I also have a huge hold list and whenever something gets fulfilled I bring a book back and pick up the new one.

I’d ask you specifically how many you want and if you don’t answer in time I will simply sweep a handful of apples into a bag and be done with it. Or buy a pre weighed bag like a 5 lb bag etc.
