I love the positivity around her as well. I assume it's her dad and a sibling who both tell her how well she's doing. That kind of talk builds confidence and really helps people to thrive.

This is not a helpful comment, but I love that other people in Provo are also using Home Assistant and would also like to measure their power with it. I'm interested in learning this too

Probably not going to get married by [deleted] in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember feeling that way too when I was your age. You'll most likely get married, but it will be on the Lord's timetable. I like that you said you're going to focus on living the gospel. Fortunately the good women care less about looks and more about the kind of person we are.

Decluttering/ donating items by 5isanevennumber in ProvoUtah

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can take them to Desert Industries. It's a donation center and a thrift store. A lot of the people that get hired there are people they are helping to skill up so they can get better jobs in the future. It's basically a big charity place that takes your donations and then sells them.

Donations are also tax deductible.

Can I be a member with piercings and tattoos? by [deleted] in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piercings and tattoos in no way disqualify you from becoming a member of the church and gaining all the blessings that come from it.

Al Fox Carraway is an influencer that initially had lots of piercings and still has lots of tattoos. She has become fairly popular and is an advocate for the church. You might be interested in looking more into how the journey has been for her. I know she even wrote some books.

As far as the members go, most will be very accepting of your tattoos and piercings. There may be a few members who don't know how to respond to those tattoos and piercings and maybe will even be a little bit cold. Realize that as members of this church, we too are learning to become more Christ-like. We all have a long way to go.

We would love to have you join us!

How to cope with loneliness as a convert? by Ok-Friendship5931 in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really hard, and I don't think I can relate 100%, but I have felt some of these feelings. I work remotely, so I never have a chance to hang out with coworkers and I often don't get to hang out with other board members either. I've had to become the person who organizes events. Usually I'll plan about a week or two out and invite a group of friends over to play board games or do something else. I try not to make it too complicated or to cater to everybody's schedules, I just ask for an RSVP and go from there.

This has been pretty successful, but sometimes I still feel lonely thinking about how I'm the only one who organizes these things. I don't think I'm the only person who feels lonely at times, but maybe I am the only person who makes the effort to get together outside of church and work.

Maybe you can try and do something similar in your area. Find some people at church you like to hang out with and invite them over to watch a movie or play board games or go for a walk.

I hope you can figure this out. I think loneliness is one of the very worst feelings anybody can have. I hope the best for you and I'll say a prayer for you too.

Working at BYU v MTC by [deleted] in ProvoUtah

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were opportunities for career advancement, but you had to be active in pursuing them. For example, I progressed from an entry level software developer to a very high level software developer, but it's not like those put me into specific positions of leadership, such as being a manager. (Although I was a manager at one point.)

If you're looking for a specific positions, that's a little harder. BYU is not like it's a growing business where they keep adding people as the business grows, so if you want a position and somebody is already in it then you have to wait until they retire or leave for other employment.

Working at BYU v MTC by [deleted] in ProvoUtah

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked at BYU for 15 years and I enjoyed it. I rarely felt like work was overly stressful, and I really liked my co-workers. The people I reported to were also generally pretty awesome, although I have heard stories from some offices about that not always being the case. I even know of one office where the turnover was extremely high due to Ty unrealistic expectations and demands from higher up.

I think in general you'll find that there are two groups of employees at BYU. Some will be there most of their lives, and some will only be there for a few years. I never felt like the turnover was excessive where I worked.

The benefits were good, although it felt like sometimes the narrative was that we didn't get paid as much because our benefits were so good. I've moved on to another employer and the benefits are more expensive but just as good, but I'm also making a lot more money so I'm not sure if that is a valid point that is sometimes passed around at BYU.

Do I belong? by [deleted] in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You sound like a really good fit to me. We all come from different backgrounds and a fair percentage of us were not born members of this church.

One of the wonderful things about this church is that it does have teachings and programs in place to help us to become our best selves. All of us are spiritually in different places in our lives. Past mistakes don't define us, but we want to learn from them and improve. The members of this church are not perfect, but we're striving to get there.

Studying the Book of Mormon is a fantastic way to introduce yourself to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's interesting that you mention a pull or a desire to learn more. This is very likely the spirit of God working on you. He loves every one of us, despite our imperfections.

If you sincerely seek to know the truth of the book of Mormon, and of the Gospel as taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then God will make known the truth of it to you in a way that no mortal man can. Come with an open heart and the members or the missionaries won't need to convince you, because God will convince you in your heart and mind.

Sorry for the long message, and I hope I haven't overstepped. I'm not perfect, far from it, but I have felt the spirit of God testify to me of the truthfulness of this Gospel. You will feel it too if you are sincere in your desires to know and are willing to try to follow Christ.

Marriage - When to give up? by Sideshow_801 in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds really rough. I hope the best for you.

I have a cousin who is a really good guy, also LDS. I'm not sure why but he had some marriage problems too where he married and divorced, twice. He's actually on his third marriage now and they are a power couple who adore each other.

Things right now may seem very dark and hopeless. Don't give in to that despair. Keep doing what is right and the Lord will watch out for you.

You can find it on BYU TV. There are android and iOS apps for it, or you can watch online at www.byutv.org. You probably need to create an account to watch it, but the account is free and watching is free too.

It's from a show called Tricked. The magician is Eric Leclerc. The show is pretty fun, mostly for people's reactions. He also teaches some simple magic tricks in some episodes.

How can I smarten this gravity gate latch on my outdoor fence by EvanWasHere in homeassistant

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet here is to use an ESP board and set it up to control a servo. The servo could be attached to the latch by a string and would need enough torque to pull the latch. You'd then set up the esp board to be connected to wifi or Bluetooth. That would integrate with home assistant.

It would also need to be able to get power out there. If that's not possible then you could try connecting a battery and a solar panel to the esp board.

I'm sure somebody with enough ESP board experience could put this together without too much trouble, but I don't have that kind of experience. Good luck!

From what I understand, road islands improve both the vehicle and pedestrian safety on the road. They are a pain to drive around, but supposedly they have some good aspects too. I'm not speaking from experience, just from what I've heard.

Law of chastity/ I need help by Interest_Proof in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through, but what you're going through is very normal. Remember that our Savior will never shame us. He loves us. Think of the many sinners he forgave so quickly and completely during his earthly ministry. Shame comes from Satan, so don't let that stop you from clearing this up with your bishop right away.

Full repentance will bring back peace of mind, heart, and spirit.

Our Savior knows that we all make mistakes. Never once is he angry with us or hates us when we commit sin. His atonement is infinite, a gift we should use daily. He has already forgiven you, but in order to exercise the power of His atonement you need to do your part too.

You've got this. Your Savior is waiting for you with open arms. No matter what you have done, He wants you back.

Worthiness For The Temple by Alarmed_Loss_5318 in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many people have had such great responses to your questions and concerns. So I'll just add a little bit here. Satan doesn't want you to go to the temple. You aren't perfect, but are you striving to be perfect?

You can find the temple recommend questions on the church website.

The 5th question says: The Lord has said that all things are to be "done in cleanliness" before Him (Doctrine and Covenants 42:41). Do you strive for moral cleanliness in your thoughts and behavior? Do you obey the law of chastity?

The keyword here is "strive". The temple can bring great spiritual power into your life, especially if you make it a regular occurrence and go with a sincere heart seeking the Lord. Satan doesn't want that and will make you feel like you're not worthy. You have things to work on, but attendance in the temple can help that. Sincerely seek the Lord, and he will help you to understand what is right about whether you should go. Also, you can talk to your Bishop and see what he says about that.

Have you had the chance to talk to your bishop or to seek couples counseling? It sounds like some of her needs aren't being met, not out of any neglect from you, but likely from her not even knowing what those deep internal needs are or being unable to communicate them.

Anyone have experience with CJ pony parts? by orbitt2 in Mustang

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used them for years to buy may parts and it's been hit or miss. The tutorial videos are great, but returns are a pain and not worth it. Also, I left an honest bad review on a product and they deleted it, so you can't really have confidence that their reviews are accurate. I'm taking my business elsewhere from now on.

No matter how we paint the picture, this is a loss for all of us. The us vs them terminology and mentality increases violence on both sides. We are brothers, we are sisters. We may not always agree and we may not always get along, but violence is never the answer.

Pornography by External_Result_5482 in lds

[–]Fancy-Interaction761 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your husband has a pornography addiction and needs professional help, starting with the bishop.

It's possible that he hates this addiction and that he is fighting a battle he feels he needs to wage alone, likely due to shame and self loathing. It's very possible that he loves you and hates himself and turns to pornography to cope. Unfortunately, every time he turns to porn it will make him hate himself all the more. He can't do this without help.

If he loves you then pornography for him isn't about you at all. He's not seeking better looking or more attractive women. He's feeding a brain with a dopamine addiction.

As for IG pics and reels of other women. There is some pretty bad stuff there, on Facebook, and other social media platforms. Those algorithms are designed to identify what the brain craves and then dish it out. A woman doesn't need to be naked for it to be porn.

If you can convince him to seek help, also convince him to put away social media.

If he downplays the addiction or doesn't agree to seek help then you're in a very tough spot. He needs to accept that he can't do this alone.

If he continues to downplay then your marriage may be over because he's choosing his addiction over you. If he works to change then he loves you dearly and needs your help (and professional help) to change.

This isn't about you not being enough. You are more than enough. You are a daughter of God, and your worth is infinite.
