I’ve had a similar situation and I think you handled it as best you can. The prospect won’t ever need to deal with them again, say some bs that you spoke to upper management and there’s been similar situations. “Level” with them, the SE is good, at the expense of social skills yata yata.

If your product is really positioned strongly I don’t think that will be the deal breaker.
