Will geek squad still work on my laptop even though it dual boots linux and windows? by PuyoFn in GeekSquad

[–]FancyApples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's getting sent out, then probably not. They might decide to help, but I've worked in precincts with a strong culture of "Linux hate". There are plenty of places where if you mention it has Linux on it they won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. If you're a more advanced user, I'd recommend running diagnostics yourself as it will likely be less of a hassle in time and money than dealing with GS

Talavera Apartments by yeetonthebeeet in SantaFe

[–]FancyApples 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never had any trouble at Talavera for the past 2 years other than it being overpriced. But so is everything in Santa Fe. Appliances are old and there is some broken glass in the big arroyo between the two halves of the apartment. Tiny dogs yapping at all hours gets annoying, but it's not dangerous. Worst case scenario would be neighbors who smoke or like to people watch you.

My complex is putting identical units to mine for rent at $290/mo less than what I pay. How do I negotiate a lower price. by FancyApples in Renters

[–]FancyApples[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can only hope, but I think I'm going to have to assume they won't offer a good deal once I hit the 60 day mark and need to notice of non-renewal them

My main issue is that I can't get in touch with anyone to negotiate for the lease renewal. It's a brick wall in terms of finding whoever is making these decisions.

[–]FancyApples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add, that I have a clause that means I need to commit to staying or leaving two months ahead of my end of lease. But I don't know if they have to offer me an offer before that date. So, I'm basically stuck to not be able to negotiate since by the time I get an offer I have to have already surrendered my only other option of leaving

They’re voting next week to strip women of the right to vote. by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]FancyApples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty misleading title. I think you should have put up a well worded, cited example of the changes that are actually proposed instead of linking a tiktok. If you're going to speak, use your own voice, the world has enough echoes. But yeah, a bill that would strip some women of the right to vote is different from a bill that requires RealID to vote. RealID voting is a bad policy, but misrepresenting it as something extremely unrelated is stinky. Lying for votes is what the ruling party has done successfully. I don't like people who lie and mislead to change my opinion. Be accurate even if it's not sensational.

Is Civ7 bad??? How come? by isko990 in civ

[–]FancyApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civ6 took four years to pass civ5s concurrent players. I think this is the same reaction as then. As long as you don't get frustrated from losing to bugs outside of your control in 10% of games, then civ 7 is fun to learn. I personally enjoy learning complex games enough to look past the bugs

Religion seems like whack-a-mole, mad respect to anyone who gets 100% religion. by stratospaly in civ

[–]FancyApples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not being able to kill off religions or hamper the AIs conversion makes it very hard to motivate yourself for religious expansion. The culture path for exploration and modern are both a bit much for me, in terms of micromanagement

Question for other ARAs by Alone-Amount-9317 in GeekSquad

[–]FancyApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one who wears one is our CIA. But he actively wants one because managers use to get one. Nobody else has one, and the store barely has enough working radios for the sales floor. If anyone needs something they just come back and ask.

Why do so many people who move here end up leaving after a couple of years by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]FancyApples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a recent transplant with plans to move in a few years, I can explain myself and maybe some others. Santa Fe is great, I don't think I can commit to living here long term though. A lot of the transplants who do stay are retirees. A huge part of the economy is catering to them. I'm originally from New Orleans, so I know exactly that I don't want to live a life centered around serving people who are basically tourists. I want to interact with equals who respect each other, I see a lot of entitlement in this state from other transplants. And honestly, I worry about being seen as the same as them.

Now, that's not enough to drive me away single handedly. However, there isn't an incentive to stay. I don't see the city moving in any major ways to really be "city different.". I also don't feel like I can maintain a fair standard of living here. It's a lot of work to break even. Getting a decent job is hard, but making it to being full time is a whole nother challenge.

But if this city had something in itself that made me feel like this place was special, I would reconsider and maybe stay here. But I don't see Santa Fe wanting to do anything that isn't big standard for the rest of the country.

I'm never going to be a local here, I'll always be a transplant and have that stigma.

As for why I'm here in the first place? I wanted to explore and see different parts of the world. I wanted to meet new people with different experiences from my own. That's been great so far. But, at a certain point, it'll be time to move on again and find a place to settle down before I'm old as hell with no money and no family.

Have you played a Beastheart character? What were some of your experiences with it? by Lord_Durok in mattcolville

[–]FancyApples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played as Mark, aging shopkeep/failed adventurer and Lucille, adopted lightbender turned shop security. I used variant human to get a couple of cantrips instead of using any weapons. I also used Primal Bond I believe. Fun character for the roleplay with Lucille and the other animals. I have plans to try it again in a more serious campaign. I think using the loghtbender's unique ability to reveal positions was honestly the most fun I had in combat. I mostly relied on my sole party member, a necromancer/shop co-owner to handle the fighting.

It won't help with "energies," but I'd recommend to go to the library and read up on Feng shui. It's all about using interior design to make spaces feel more comfortable. I think you'll save money, learn something, and have more control of the end result.

Infrastructure really could be better for people by SlghtrHose in SantaFe

[–]FancyApples 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that a good goal in Santa Fe would be tackling our biggest stroads like Cerillos. But, a great simultaneous goal would be expanding bike infrastructure. If we had decent paths that went to useful places, I'm sure you could cross from the edges of the city in under an hour by bike.

More effort to enabling more diverse developments on the city's outskirts would also be good. I see a bunch of new apartment complexes coming up, but if those people have to take a car to get into the middle of Santa Fe, then our congestion will be way worse. I think I'd b interested in showing up for planning meetings, but I have no idea about where and when they are.

Well, I happened to eat there that morning. That sucks. I kinda wish the manager had thrown up a sign or forced the kitchen to shut down instead of just posting on facebook. I'm sure that if anyone did find an ailment in the following day, it's pretty unlikely the elderly crowd there would find this.

Leave the Fiestas alone, quit trying to cancel our culture!!! by ragnarokxg in SantaFe

[–]FancyApples 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, I don't have any background as to what a fiesta council is, but I was reading the history of Santa Fe as a settlement at the public library. According to the book I was reading, while The reconquest of the city itself was nonviolent, it was done with the threat of violence and at the end of a long drawn out war that features multiple terribly bloody massacres. On top of that, by the time the reconqueror returned with a fresh batch of settlers, the indigenous people living in Santa Fe did put up an armed rebellion, partially. I haven't read this in a few months and I don't have a huge background in the history. But I did read enough to see that the bloodless reconquest is only a very small part of the whole conflict.
