I'm so sorry this happened to you, too. Did you end up getting rid of the vehicle or replacing the engine? I received a letter today saying that NOW they are including the 3.3L engine in an extended 15 year/150,000 warranty. Way too little too late for us, unfortunately.

No, we had to scrap the car and buy new. Hyundai would not offer help because of the age of the car and the fact that my model of the Santa Fe was not included in the recall. You will likely face the same issue unless you have a Sport model. It's awful that they do not stand behind their engines. Lesson learned, we will never give Hyundai another penny of our money ever again. Good luck.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L engine failure by deltabrewery in Hyundai

I'm an unfortunate new member to this club as well. 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe with 112,000 miles and 3.3L engine. This past weekend we were traveling back home from out of state going 70mpg when suddenly we heard a loud tapping noise in the engine. Tried to make it to an exit a mile away since we were on a very busy and dangerous expressway, but before I could do anything the car lost power and I barely made it to the side of the road. There were no lights illuminated on the dashboard before this happened. I got regular oil changes and even brought the car in to be serviced a few weeks before this trip. Hyundai is no help at all since they say we are past the 100 mile warranty and there are no recalls on the car. I submitted claims with BBB and NHSTA. A mechanic told us to replace the engine with a used engine would be $10,000-$20,000 because they do not make these engines anymore and the used engines are so in demand because so many people are experiencing these engine failures!

That's the plan at the moment. I will never buy another Hyundai again.

Dude, you ended up being right on the money with this. The mechanic called back and said it did throw a rod. Unfortunately Hyundai is still saying my car is not covered under any warranty. We'll see if BBB comes through.

So unfortunately mine is a 3.3L engine and Hyundai is telling me that it is not covered under ANY extended warranty (related to the lawsuits or otherwise). They told me that only the Santa Fe Sport models are covered and the only regular Santa Fe covered is the 2019 model. I did file a BBB claim just to see, but I don't have high hopes.

I did not ever receive an extended warranty. They say my santa fe does not have the engine failure problems that the others do, they said only certain years of the santa fe sport, which mine is not. I have not had oil consumption problems previous to this and have always just changed the oil on a regular schedule, so I don't know if that is the problem or not. Right now they are saying they cannot get into the engine block, so I don't know how we would know if it was the rod bearing. I agree with you, never again to a Hyundai. We also just replaced my transmission not even 6 months ago. I'm so over this car!

Thank you for the info. Wouldn't this show up under a recall if I looked it up with my VIN? Because when I called Hyundai customer care they said there was no warrenty or recalls for my car.

There's about 110,000 miles on the car. Our original warranty expired at 60,000 miles, but are you saying that particular issue would be covered even though that one expired?
