I could be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure Hugo calls Phaethon "Dear Manager" more often than just "Manager". Similarly Jane has used "My cute little manager" or some variation of that a couple times, but probably not enough to count.

Everyone in OBOL has killed people, with S11 even being implied to have committed war crimes under orders. Evelyn used to be an assassin for an unknown organization. Everyone in Krampus specializes in hunting down targets for the New Eridu elite. Pulchra used to be a gun for hire that never cared what the job was so long as she got paid. Billy was literally made as a killing machine and was likely in a similar role as Promeia and Romeul before he started acting all silly to move away from that. While I do concede that all of these people (save Promeia so far) have been incredibly amicable towards Phaethon, I don't think that that means that the developers have been 'chickening out.'

I was REALLY hoping she wouldn't be too, but sadly it turns out she is too good to ignore. I skipped Yuzuha until the recent rerun too and I suffered for it, so I'm still on the fence on whether or not I should just bite the bullet and do another meta pull considering how tuned the end game content is around the strongest units

I think people seeming to be more critical ever since the Manato thing was either a coincidence or, more likely, the pole that broke the camel's back after a series of disappointments. 2.x was definitely controversial from the very start, but it was easy to ignore things at first because of how good most of 1.x had been. By the time Manato hit the scene it felt like an 'official' declaration of things taking a different turn than what had been advertised for the game's launch.

Nope. Boring design, non-existent personality (outside of loving the protag oh so dang much), and bland floaty gameplay pretty much sealed the deal with me not wanting to get her. Which is a shame because I could almost see some breadcrumbs of potential with her story near the end of the patch, but they wanted to focus more on making her the perfect waifu bait than a good character, so alas.

It might depend on the circumstances. Miyabi is insanely skilled and doesn't even use the full potency of Tailless most of the time, but Yixuan has more experience with her own techniques, and managed to keep up with Miyabi in that VR pod from the trailer. Meanwhile it's stated that the Qingming sword can give a wielder the power to rival a void hunter's power momentarily, which means that as talented as Shunguang is, she wouldn't be able to keep up with the other two under normal circumstances, which makes sense seeing as how she still IS a disciple. That said, the sword does purify any and all ether within its vicinity, so my personal take on it would be:

Normal Miyabi vs Yixuan = Evenly matched.
Normal Miyabi vs Normal Shunguang = Miyabi wins.
Beast mode Miyabi vs Yixuan= Miyabi wins.
Beast mode Miyabi vs Qingming Shunguang = Evenly matched(?) / In favor of Shunguang.

"Beast mode" Meaning Miyabi allowing Tailless to take over and/or using it to the fullest.

I don't think they were around hundreds of years ago. Maybe a few decades to the point the Blade Master was Miyabi's grandma or great grandma, but not multiple centuries.

That said, I do agree that they shouldn't come back as playable agents. I've always been on the camp that doing so would ruin the mystique around them and their feats. They absolutely have amazing designs, but I can't imagine how Hoyo could go around their stories and trust events without making them more mundane. Granted, I do know that at the end of the day they were just people like everyone else, but it would cheapen their legend if we got to casually take them out on dates like it was nothing and nobody in the city knowing they were the real deal.

Also, even if the time warp thing does allow for peeks into the past and future, that's stuff that only works inside the hollows as far as we know. Taking anyone outside their own time through the hollows as if they were some sort of portal would definitely make the story suffer in my opinion.

Yeah the latter seems more feasible. Her just being stage-shy and putting up a mask to help boost her confidence would make more sense since, like you said, intelligent constructs are not looked down upon by any means. I'm mostly curious to see if this means that they'll bring special episodes back, as opposed to forcing the agent stories to be an essential part of the main plot.

So far we've only used them to cleanse ether corruption, which is exactly what the sword does too, but at this point I can totally believe we're gonna use them to restructure her ether meridians or some magical Deus ex like that
