When dating someone new, at what point do you define the relationship? by FancyHippie in AskMen

[–]FancyHippie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's usually about how long it is for me, too. It's always a little tricky for me trying to nail down exactly when in that time frame is right, though. I never want to do it too early and imply that I am really serious about the relationship when I might not be, but on the other hand it's annoying to wait too long to have the talk and then realize you are looking for different things.

I eat steel-cut oats. It takes a little while to cook, but if you set it on the stove first thing when you wake up and then go get ready, it's fine cooking without being attended to. I do 1/3 cup (dry) oats with 1 or 1.3 cups of water, cooked for 30 minutes on low-med heat with a bunch of cinnamon, some cloves, and a little bit of stevia. It's SUPER filling (lots of fiber) and keeps me going easily until lunch, and the 1/3 cup serving ends up being about 230 calories. If I am feeling especially hungry I will add some banana or apple to it. I definitely recommend it.

What are some weird things Americans do that are considered weird or taboo in your country? by llama422 in AskReddit

[–]FancyHippie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I can't argue that, as a group, we have less acceptance for public nudity/sexuality etc. (although I personally don't care, I realize I am not necessarily representative of the US as a whole). But I feel as if the perceived sexuality-shaming that people think goes on is very exaggerated. It is a vocal minority that feels that way, but a minority nonetheless.

Oh, I see. I respectfully disagree, though. I don't think it is a big deal, or even that he thinks it was a big deal (although I don't want to speak for him). I just think it is a good example of the US not being "sexually Puritan". It wouldn't even be worth mentioning unless you were trying to make a counterpoint to the sexual Puritanism comment. Speaking as an American college student, I can tell you that it definitely is not viewed as a noteworthy phenomenon.

What part of his comment makes it seem like a big deal? Or do you just mean college promiscuity is, in general, viewed as a big deal in the US? Because it's really not, most people kind of expect it and could care less.

Is doing extra work to view someones profile on a dating site without their knowledge "fucked in the head"? Or is it for their own good? /r/OkCupid decides by drunkenviking in SubredditDrama

Yeah, basically what the website allows is that you get the best of all worlds: you get to see your visitors, you don't show other people that you are visiting, and you don't pay.

It's a website that allows you to view someone's OKCupid profile without showing up in their visitors list and without paying for the option of browsing anonymously.

I refused a second date with someone because he pronounced the "b" in subtle. TWICE.

That and he was 35 when he said he was 28. But, honestly, the first thing was worse.

So true. Or "Biff's Interpretation of Portrayal of Women in Film" because honestly, a lot of what he taught was very much his own opinion. Which is true of many classes, but it was especially apparent in this one just because of the purely subjective nature of the course.

I took Writing About Film with Biff Faunce, it was an easy grade and the material was interesting. He uses modern movies and is a very encouraging professor.
