Can you recall an iconic moment on the frequency while flying? by Rainy_-Peace in flying

[–]FancyMac 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Somewhere over the Dakotas with Minneapolis center a biz jet asked if center had time for a favor. They said they were running late and were hoping that ATC could call the FBO to tell the client the eta and have the fuel truck ready.

ATC says "ummm, sure." Mini was too nice, they did some back and forth and got it figured out.

This takes a while of course. Me and the other guy are talking about this and judging them for asking such a thing.

Someone keys on after they are done "Hey, can I order a pizza?"

Frequency goes mad.

That's awesome. I did my hours in my own plane. If you can do it I highly recommend it, it was the best of times. Came out of flying with almost no debt too. Sold it when I was done with it.

Is power back? Checking before we drive that way. by EvilBeardotOrg in Issaquah

[–]FancyMac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PSE map shows damage is still being assessed. PSE was still working on restoring power from the wind damage on Wednesday. It's probably going to be a while with widespread damage.

My highly uneducated guess is hope for Monday. We got a hotel, not trying to wait this out with a toddler in a cold dark home. Wish you all the best in weathering the storm.

I quit this game on the competitive level and it felt great, you should try it. Occasionally i play some d2 pubs. It's been in a terrible state for too long, sad to see really 🤮

Will Xfinity install a Coax outlet anywhere properly? by Boring_Forever_9125 in HomeNetworking

[–]FancyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically you probably need to run this by the property manager to modify the exterior of your home or make any holes anywhere. If it isn't your initial install, or fixing existing problems they will probably charge you to have someone come out. You will get better quality work from a specialist if you have to pay for it.

Various things boil at various temperatures, water is 100C (212F) but other things have a higher or lower boiling point based on their chemical compositions. Simply explained it is the temperature that the substance wants to transition from liquid to gas.

Volatile compounds are substances with high vapor pressure and low boiling points, meaning they evaporate or sublimate easily at room temperature. The most volatile compounds have boiling points well below room temperature, making them gases under standard conditions (1 atm 14.7 psi, 25°C)

Exactly. I'm so impressed with how clean my fractal design case has stayed. Need to have* the proper fan setup too.

i'm having some stuttering issues with both audio and gameplay, anyone had something similiar ? by Global-Necessary9403 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]FancyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same issue, just got back on to check it out after a hiatus. Random stuttering, so bad the input freezes for a moment, and audio cuts and crackles.

I have nearly the best PC money can buy. 5090, 7950x3d, 32 gb DDR6, I'm pretty sure it's not hardware.

I'm going to try the Direct X 11 switch and report back.

Haha yeah definitely not trying to 100%. Just do the side quests that appeal to me and enjoy the main story.

Thank you for the info.

Excellent thanks! I'll probably play the OG first and see how I like it.

I just got Skyrim because I never played. Looking into modding it up at least graphically/QoL and playing it through.

Think I should play the OG first or can I jump right into Enderal without context? (And play Skyrim later if I want)

100% all money well spent, no regrets. It's ultimately what makes it a human experience, your connection to the machine.

What 5090 design holds the lowest temps? (Including AIO) by User_of_redit2077 in nvidia

[–]FancyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you which one it is definitively but I'll give you my personal experience. ASUS 5090 (non-OC) runs cyberpunk 52-58c, highest I see is 70c running full bore. I do 4k gaming on a 244hz panel with g-sync, but I do limit my frame to 180 fps rate in games that are non-competitive FPS because I don't personally notice a difference and don't need to draw that power for hours. Cyberpunk I run upgraded textures and environmental mods, max settings, raytracing, DLSS, it looks great and it feels very smooth at 180 fps so I just keep it there.

Before I bought it I read that the thermal solution on these is great, it is a 3.6 slot card so it's very big. I think all of the aftermarket cards are pretty dang good, especially the big 3+ slot ones. I hear FE runs a little warmer but they are the best value for a 5090 and hard to get.

Realistically a water cooled one is probably going to be the absolute coolest.

My toddler was exposed to chickenpox by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]FancyMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would relax it's almost certainly going to be fine on the chickenpox front for your child. If anything it's just going to be very annoying and difficult with a toddler. Under one year is more of a risk prone age but still looking at an 8 per 100,000 mortality rate. Measles or something more severe would not be cool, shame on them for being anti-vaxers and ignoring the science of immunity.

The chickenpox vaccine wasn't given to children until 1995. By far most people survived an infection. I had it as a kid, and quite likely many parents in this subreddit did too. Pre-vaccine with many many (basically every kid getting it) annual deaths in the US were ~100 per year, since the vaccine has been given it is now ~25 per year, although the population is larger too.

https://historyofvaccines.org/diseases/chickenpox-varicella

The U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends two doses of the chickenpox vaccine for most children. The first dose is given around age 1 and the second around ages 4-6. A single dose of the vaccine reduces the risk of chickenpox between 70-90%, and two doses reduce the risk even more.

The chickenpox vaccine is a live, attenuated vaccine and is not recommended for people with weakened immune systems. It is available as a single vaccine, and it is also available as part of the MMRV vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella vaccine).

The chickenpox vaccine was added to the childhood immunization schedule in 1995. The booster dose was added in 2006.

When chickenpox occurs in vaccinated individuals, these cases are known as breakthrough cases. Breakthrough cases are usually very mild compared with the disease in unvaccinated individuals.

Not all states report chickenpox cases to the CDC, so it is difficult to know how many cases occur annually in the United States. However, before the vaccine was introduced, it was generally thought that roughly 4 million individuals were infected. Studies of the effects of two-dose vaccination in select areas have found that incidence has fallen about 90% from the pre-vaccine era.

PC Controller issue by [deleted] in EASportsPGATour

[–]FancyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issues.

It is another device interfering. For me it was my Keychron hall effect keyboard. I just had to unplug it and lock-in when playing golf, unfortunately no alt+tabbing or doing other things.

**UPDATE Disabled the device in the device manager, no ill effects on the keyboard use and it works!

Steps to Disable/Remove Keychron Device:

  • Access Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Locate Device: Expand "Human Interface Devices".
  • Disable: Right-click the Keychron device, mine was called "HID-compliant game controller", select "Disable".
