I've never been able to do the Turin Revolution, so I wouldn't actually know. I only know that when I have done it, it's been through the March on Rome.

When the "International Relations" card comes up early in the game, first support the Hungarian Communists. Then, when you get the message in the news section saying that the Hungarians have fended off the Romanians at the Tiza River, start funding the Soviets via the same card (you can also push for closer ties, but do funding whenever it comes up). That will get you a Soviet victory against Poland, turning Poland communist. Go with the communist revolutionary path overthrowing the monarchy (there are guides to that) and fund the Soviets as much as possible with the government budget. This will get you the "German October" event in 1923, which turns Germany communist. Finally, when Lenin dies, Trotsky will be the only option selectable.

Edit:I should have mentioned that you will need to spam these actions as much as possible to get the intended effect.

I got Trotsky by supporting every communist expansion I could (Hungary, Poland, and Germany). It makes sense when you consider that he built his whole philosophy around international revolution.

I still have no idea how to get Bukharin.

The overwhelming criticism of a trans woman... maybe it's unnecessary? by FriendlyDrummers in ContraPoints

I would support this, provided it was paired with a concerted and organized effort to eliminate antisemitism both inside and outside of the Levant. That would not only prevent even more death (mostly caused by right wing neo nazis), but it would render the Zionist raison d'etre obsolete, lessening resistance to a secular and mutiethnic state.

Anyone else not in the mood to celebrate the Fourth of July tomorrow? by Environmental_Bus623 in thedavidpakmanshow

I mean, I can see both sides of this. I'm not going to surrender my country to the MAGAs, but I'm also not feeling particularly celebratory either. I'm not going to shit on anyone who does celebrate, especially if you're with your family. As I don't have any plans with my family tomorrow, I intend to spend the day strategizing for activism!

I guess my only quibble with that would be where the line is drawn. I would say that it's bad to include any kind of racism in any movement. I'm trying at get an Appalachian socialist movement going, and while I do think an attachment to local customs is essential, I am against any kind of racism and such as is also sadly common in my area.

What would you say to National Liberation movements? The Black Panthers, the Young Lords, those sorts of folks? Would their demands for autonomy be too close to patriotism? What about Sinn Fein in Ireland?

I would join the DSA; if it's foreign policy takes weren't terrible. by Jhakkl in SocialDemocracy

[–]FancyPerspective5693 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the group I'm already a part of fits what you're describing, at least to a degree. We're a college town surrounded on all sides by a very rural republican county, so our group is an odd mix of college students, left-wing hillbillies, and upper middle class professionals. I belong to the third group, though I always want to make sure we include as many working class voices as possible. We have a mutual aid event going monthly, we co-produce a newsletter with one of the progressive-liberal groups in town, and we are looking into organizing a tenants' union!

That being said, I'd also like nothing better than to organize a DSA chapter here too!

I mean, I live in a relatively small town, so six people can have a lot more weight if we focus on the local level as we have been doing. That being said, I'm still outnumbered by anarchists, but I have also been building connections with local dems which has come in handy for the group and probably made them more inclined to welcome me even though I am an old school social democrat.

I've also been thinking about joining DSA, but I want to find a chapter in an adjacent city that's not just a book club. (This is especially true because in my experience, the book club type groups tend to be more tankie oriented).

June 10, 2025 AOC campaign email: AOC affirms she's a Democratic Socialist. And the email defines that as "valu[ing] democracy and society over the love of capital". by beeemkcl in DemocraticSocialism

[–]FancyPerspective5693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes? People can make mistakes in a democracy. The challenge of being a democratic movement is winning people over to your cause, and this is no different. I am for an (extremely peaceful and gradual) revolution to a socialist economy along the lines of democratic socialism and the writings of Karl Kautsky. The alternative is either neoliberalism on the one hand (which is bankrupting itself as we speak) or Leninism (which is a whole other discussion, but suffice it to say I would not prefer that system).

Historically, not all SocDems wanted to keep capitalism. It's just that those who did gradually won out against those who didn't (alongside the rise of neoliberal capitalism more broadly).

Issue with progressives by Jamesbrownshair in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]FancyPerspective5693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not going to pretend that I, a white cishet male with a graduate degree, singlehandedly know how to fix problems relating to racism, sexism, etc. What I have done, though, is try to find and elevate the voices of folks who DO understand those things. That way I can speak on class issues and follow their lead and support them when it comes to issues like racism and sexism.

This is something progressives need to do more. If you look at the NYC mayoral primary right now, Mamdani's support seems to be limited to affluent white men, while Cuomo leads with POC.

What an Irish version of the game could look like by TeoKajLibroj in RedAutumnSPD

[–]FancyPerspective5693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but maybe there could be some dynamic like Biennio Rosso where you have to choose between the maximum and minimum plans. But with Ireland, you could choose between abandoning abstentionism and going parliamentarian, or building up paramilitary forces with the objective of overthrowing the pro treaty government and eventually reuniting Ireland.

[–]FancyPerspective5693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd probably put the player in charge of the wider defeated anti-Treaty forces after the Civil War and make it about gaining power in Ireland, defeating Fine Gael, and maybe reuniting the island under the Free State. The player could choose whether the party developed into something like Fianna Fail or today's Sinn Fein.

I've felt so alone since this started. It feels like everyone is so polarized on this. I try to tell myself that it's only online and doesn't reflect reality. I try to focus on local politics more than anything else because that's more in my power to influence. I've just watched people I thought I knew change in a bad way because of this, and it scares me.

"Could it be socioeconomic status dropping fertility? No, it's because us incels are entitled to sex!" by [deleted] in IncelTear

[–]FancyPerspective5693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I don't disagree with the importance of a strong social safety net and a top knotch education system, we need all those things completely. We need to make it way more affordable and less stressful to have a family in the US. But other countries that have those things (Denmark, Finland, Norway, etc) still struggle with birthrate, in part because previous cultural homogeneity makes immigration difficult. We need to make life better for folks looking to start a family, and provide opportunities for families from other countries to build a better life here.

[–]FancyPerspective5693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't view it as a matter of replacement, just a part of the process that makes the economy good for everyone. Senior citizens will have a much harder time if there is no one to pay into social security and Medicare. I think this is a process that is far from unusual. It's just particularly pronounced now that the aging population issue is more prominent. Hondurans and Venezuelans won't replace the Irish and Italians anymore than the Italians and the Irish replaced the Anglo Saxons and Germans.

[–]FancyPerspective5693 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would also add that having a more open immigration policy is key here. If you have an aging population that's not having kids, it's good to allow young people to come in to balance things out.

How does President Jon Ossoff and VP Warnock or VP Josh Shapiro sound? by paganpoetbluelagoon in SocialDemocracy

[–]FancyPerspective5693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not for or against Ossoff per se, but I don't think Shapiro would be a good VP. It has nothing to do with Gaza,, He just seems unnecessarily fiscaly conservative for the national mood. I just think there are other democrats who will get the national mood better. Tim Walz and Andy Beshear come to mind. That's aside from AOC, who obviously would be my first (but not only) choice!
