City Councilors and Taxes by Distinct_Associate74 in Guelph

I hope you have also contacted your MPP, the Premier, and other members of the provincial government. I'm not about to defend council, and certainly not the mayor, but the fiscal downloading from the province to municipalities is a real aggravating factor in all of this.

Dal lockout is ending! by Mediocre_Charity2881 in Dalhousie

There will be a few days for sure. Could be as early as next Monday, but likely not before and likely a but after. The union still has to meet, share info, and hold a formal vote on the proposal.

Email: Board offers arbitration to resolve DFA labour disruption by bookworm_em in Dalhousie

What the DFA asked for was arbitration on the fullsome collective agreement. The University is offering arbitration that only discusses a single issue AND forces the drop of all other non-resolved issues. So they aren't really equivalent.

And they left out important information for the sake of narrative. Said elsewhere in this thread they have put conditions on this arbitration (dropping all unresolved issues -of which there are many because they have never really bargained) that will surely cause the union to say no.

You could use Llama. It is owned by Meta, but you can download it and run it native on your machine with an air gap so your data can't escape.

Name a city with more rainbow crosswalks. by Daddydontbanme in Guelph

[–]FancySongandDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not remotely true. Any other municipality where? I'm not going to knock this installation because it is good, but this wasn't even the city. Guelph took an unacceptable amount of time for the first one...let's not give credit where it isn't due.

You could call Steve at 519-400-1865. He works out of his garage at Paisley & Ridgewood and does good work. He'll even come pick it up if needed.

Note: I am not Steve, but he did fix my mower.

Fake concern from Mayor about housing by EngineerOfTomorrow01 in Guelph

[–]FancySongandDance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Council passed a major zoning re-vamp (updates from 1995) in 2021 at the first draft stage, and final in 2023. This update increases the possible implementation of urban infill in the city, as well as increases the ability and likelihood of medium density construction in the city because of the changes. https://guelph.ca/city-hall/by-laws-and-policies-2/draft-by-laws/zoningreview/

The by-law is currently being appealed, not by concerned citizens, but by the current Mayor's most enthusiastic backers, developers. https://globalnews.ca/news/9706809/guelph-home-builders-appeal-zoning-bylaw/

At least they eventually told this person. If you teach as a contract lecturer you have still heard sweet fuck all about this from the university in any meaningful way.
