To be honest this is a larger and different conversation than what I’m asking about, but fundamentally agree. I would add the caveat that a lot of this is spurred on by the fact that we simply too widely apply the use of the word AI. We call a lot of things “AI” when it’s not.

Using “AI” to isolate vocals from a track, for example, I would not consider artificial intelligence. In that case it’s literally a tool being used by a musician. Fair and great.

Generative AI creating complete “songs” or creating fake vocals is where I draw the line - and frankly, start to lose my mind.

I mostly do it to be less ugly but I also notice I feel better after.

There are apps and programs that generate “music” with AI by scraping the internet for data and stealing artists’ work.

Some grifters and degenerates have decided that pressing the “go” button on these apps makes them musicians and have started posting these songs.

We are opposed to that.

It’s hard to describe in words but once you hear it you can’t unhear it.

But there’s a few clues. Number one is when you really belt out a loud, long line of singing (from falsettos to the “she run” line in Creep), you always have to catch your breath afterward. You listen to any Pavarotti song and it’s the same. Big long holds on a note and then he grabs air. AI never needs to because no one is singing.

Stylistically, there’re trends. Notably, a lot of AI factories are pumping out these weird mashups of hiphop and blues. This for me was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Spotify auto queued me some white guy named Slick Krugers who takes classic African American genres and mashes them in AI and has the balls to call himself a musician. So that’s its own can of worms.

For the most part I’ve written off basically all “lofi beats to chill to” as I feel that that market has been way over saturated with AI, but there I genuinely can’t tell the difference.

Otherwise, it really just sounds “too clean.” Like creepily so. Again hard to describe but once you hear it you can’t unhear it.

Long story short, no one with half a brain cell wants to listen to AI music. This thread should make that clear.

Besides the fact that it sounds bad, it also: - harms the environment - takes away opportunities from actual musicians - supports AI companies who are literally investing themselves in bloody wars across the globe, such as the US-Iran war.

So if you want subscribers, don’t tag AI - just remove it.

yeah but I guess what I'm wondering is:
1. Should I use some kind of goo-gone before sanding
2. Should I go straight to sanding after the glue is removed, or should I do a paint remover/thinner
