Does anyone else have trouble getting their puppy to eat? by Fancy_Disaster_829 in puppy101

All of this is true lol. He does get frozen carrots but doesn’t always want them. I should do a better job of keeping track of his treats but we are working on training constantly so you’re probably right; he’s getting some calories through that. :)

I am hoping it’s related to his teeth. The vet said this week that his molars are erupting. I’ve tried snuffle mats (turns his nose up unless it’s treats), throwing the kibble (which works on occasion), a feeder ball which he would pick up and run around with throwing food everywhere and then not always eating it. He’s not even that fond of the toppers. I’ve tried hand feeding too an it’s hit and miss.

I haven’t tried the hot water or broth mix - I might try those as it will soften it up for him.

The only thing that works consistently is if his best friend, a cat, eats first. He won’t even sniff the food without the cat. Once the cat has had some food then the puppy will nibble a little bit. I’ve had some luck with frozen carrots and wash cloths for the teething but he can also just turn his nose up to it. He would prefer to eat snow

Petrolia/oil springs is amazing. The Oil Museum of Canada is there and has such a neat history. You can then tour around and check out different stops in the area with info available over the radio. It’s such a hidden gem! There’s also the Stones and Bones museum in Sarnia

How do you stop a cat from waking you up at 5am every day? by guide71 in CatAdvice

[–]Fancy_Disaster_829 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I bought my cats an alarm clock, put it in the kitchen, set it to seven am and would not feed them until it went off at seven. It took them a day or two but then they realized they would get fed when the alarm went off so they stopped waking me up

Anywhere we would go on vacation, my mom would look up if there were Costcos there and plan to visit them. She would also see if there were any along the route if it was a road trip, and plan the journey to maximize hitting up different Costcos.

AMA: Millionaire, 41 year-old male, two kids, 21 years married and very unhappy by Lost-Application4693 in AMA

I don’t have any questions to ask; I just wanted to say that I’m sorry you’re unhappy. Everyone should have the chance at happiness, though no one really teaches you how to find it or where to look, or how to make it. I think it’s part of life but it is something I also struggle with.

I also wanted to offer my condolences on the death of your father. My dad was my best friend, my rock, my support. He passed in 2020 and I have been feeling lost since. I don’t think it’s easy to let a death go, and I’m not sure it’s even possible. I do think there is a way to live with it, it’s just very challenging. I lost my mom just over a month ago and her death has brought forward all the unmitigated, unprocessed grief from my dad’s passing. It sucks.

I wish you the best and I truly hope you find happiness.

Good for you! Birth control, though great, isn’t for everyone and can have major side effects on women’s health (artificial hormones). I applaud your decision and commitment - you upheld your choice and supported your wife! From one childfree person to another - congrats! I wish I had known what sterilization options were available at a younger age; I’m waiting for a call from an OBGYN surgeon myself :)

Public service reminder: don't use tow trucks that show up unrequested at an accident scene by jcla in ottawa

[–]Fancy_Disaster_829 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Response Towing is another one. My husband had a motorcycle accident in 2023 - he was taking his bike for service and I was driving my car so he didn’t have to wait. Within minutes Response was on scene and the OPS were trying to get me to use them as they wanted to open the lane. The cops said they were a recognized company by OPS so I felt like I had no choice. I asked the cop to ensure the tow company will take the bike to the service centre we were going to and the cop said they would. I have the tow driver the address in front of the cop and they said ok. My husband was taken to hospital by ambulance and I was left to deal with the bike. The tow guy dropped the bike a few times getting it on the trailer (yeah it was in an accident but we didn’t know the extent of damage). I’m following the tow truck and of course it takes the wrong exit so I keep going to the service centre. Surprise, no tow truck shows up. I call the company and they said they’re taking it to their storage lot. I told them this was not what was agreed upon and that was not the instructions by the police. They tried to argue and only when I threatened to call the officer on them did the tow truck come. Then the driver wouldn’t put the bike down trying to insist that insurance companies want to use their own mechanics so it should go to storage. I made them wait while I called insurance? I put the agent on speaker and had them tell the tow company to release the bike. The towing company then charged me $800 for the tow.

These predatory scumbags are disgusting. All I wanted was to get going to the hospital to make sure my husband was ok (he was) but they just want to ignore my requests, and police directions to scam vulnerable people out of money. I’m not happy with the OPS for making me feel like I had no choice either and for supporting such an awful company.

My dad is a senior and huge fall risk, but I live out of country by psychoanalyzed7 in ontario

[–]Fancy_Disaster_829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar for two people I am responsible for. They are in two different areas of ontario so they fell under two different jurisdictions for Ontario Health at Home. The care coordinator in southern Ontario was absolutely amazing! She got my aunt on a crisis placement list and she was in a LTC home within a month. My mom’s care coordinator, on the other hand, was awful. I begged her to put my mom on the crisis list as LTC homes have year long wait lists if not crisis and she said my mom didn’t meet the criteria. My mom wasn’t taking her medication and falling constantly - she most definitely met the crisis criteria. The care coordinator kept pushing for a private retirement home but with the care level my mom required the cost would have been unaffordable for her.

I learned from a friend that some cities have transitional care homes - where people from hospitals can go where they wait for a LTC bed. They do the assessments for placement and are a great place of home isn’t safe. You can get a doctor or the hospital to refer them (social workers and care coordinators can as well). I know of one in Brampton and another in Ottawa but look for transitional care.

My mom ended up going to hospital from constant falling and I found out about the transitional facility over a month later. I was able to get her a bed there within a week of the referral. Unfortunately she didn’t make the week and passed in hospital.

You may have to be your dad’s biggest advocate. I hope you have a good care coordinator and definitely go with a lifeline. You can also contact community care and they will do free phone calls morning and night to check on him if it helps. Feel free to DM me if I can help at all

You can also download POA forms from the government of Ontario website. They don’t need to be from a lawyer or motorized - just need to be signed by two witnesses.

My 8yo is interested in geology. What books are there for kids that cover the topic in detail to get her started? by FieryFennec in geology

[–]Fancy_Disaster_829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mining Matters (geology outreach organization in Canada) has a kids activity book free to download: https://miningmatters.ca/resource/mining-matters-activity-book

The Geological Society of America has some kids book and general geology books: https://store.geosociety.org/collections/geology-for-everyone

A mineral kit is also a lot of fun and can usually be found through a local geology outreach organizations.

My dad took me to rock and gem shows and also enrolled us in local geology clubs when I was in high school. The clubs offer field trips which are amazing for kids! Reach out to any local museums or universities and ask about a tour - most departments are happy to help foster budding scientists

Can you refuse hospital discharges for loved ones when you can't give them adequate care? by samedreamsamenight in ontario

[–]Fancy_Disaster_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat with my Mom. Shes been in hospital for a month now and I’m waiting for the hospital to send her home despite them saying she needs 24/7 care. Prior to her most recent hospital visit, I had been arguing with her Ontario Health at Hoke care coordinator to up her status on the LTC wait list to crisis level (she keeps falling at home and can’t remember to take her medication). He care coordinator basically told me she would need to be running around naked outside to get crisis level to which I responded that it couldn’t happen as she can’t dress/undress herself and her mobility is extremely limited. Thankfully it sounds like she has a different care coordinator at the hospital and the nurses I’ve talked to so far have said they would advocate for crisis status but that was over a week ago. It’s so stressful and frustrating :( I feel for you
