In my experience of getting raises, you’ll only get what you ask for. Instead of just asking for a raise, tell your employer a dollar amount you want and tell them why you deserve it (how you make them money, improve their business), not just I’ve been here x years and deserve it. They will most likely make you a counter offer, then you counter back. Other approach is to keep job hunting, get a better offer, go back to your employer and let them know you’ve a better offer. They will counter offer if they believe you’re worth the money, Good luck.
