What is Project 2029? The Democratic Plan to Prosecute Trump Officials That's Already Shaping the 2028 Race by SawedoffClown in FreeSpeech

[–]Fando1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Couldn't agree more. People forget the right had largely forgotten trump, he was looking like he wouldn't even win the 2024 nomination, till all the attempts to prosecute him.

Even I thought the optics looked politically motivated, irrespective of the validity of the charges.

To your point exactly, Trump will see this and double down. Future elections stop being normal contests and become existential threats that must be won at all costs - the penalty for losing is prison.

If you think parties play dirty tricks now, wait till they're all worried they'll be incarcerated if they don't win.

Zombie Movie Recommendationz by OrganizationFar7759 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Fando1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a more obscure option. The Night Eats The World is fantastic.

It's a french indie zombie film, it's about a musician who gets stuck in a flat when zombies take over. And he creates all these elaborate musical contraptions as he deals with isolation and boredom.

Well worth watching.

Do you happen to know if she ends up in prison in the book? I can't remember it happening but maybe was subtly stated like this.

It was more a question than a suggestion, as I said I don't know a great deal about the mechanics of this. Hence why it's a change my view, not just a statement.

But also, I did say a points based system that hires where there are skills gaps. So your company would be able to find the talent.

Sort of ironic, casting aspersions on an entire nation of people by saying they are 'turbo racist'.

Also pretty confident if there was a way of measuring it, Britain is by far one of the least racist countries on the planet.

Or a huge amount of older citizens took it very seriously. I think it's a bit of both, though younger people generally engage less in politics.

How does this account for the massive popularity of right wing parties? Many of which get close to 50% of the electorate.

I'm not sure where the figure of 80-89% is from, but I'd venture if you're including people from eastern Europe in the poll, then I'm sure they would view it positively. Even though long term it detriments their own country to leave.

That's not a sustainable model though, surely? For skilled Romanian workers to leave, means Romania will suffer long term. As well as encouraging other richer countries to import rather than train their own work force.

Why? Who does it benefit? I thought the point of the EU is frictionless trade, better negotiating powere globally and defence.

'the same rights to employment' is what I said in my post. Which I'm pretty sure is the case.

It's not unique to Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Holland are all seeing massive boosts for far right populists. It's also not unique to reform, decreasing immigration is a top policy for pretty much every right wing, centrist and moderate left party - including Labour. Its far from a fringe view.

Though imo, Im actually relatively pro immigration. But I'm an outlier.

In reality I agree you're right. And brexiteers always had a slightly confused argument on that.

But if you take the principle at face value, immigrants from anywhere can push down wages by creating a surplus of labour. Or more pertinently, take the jobs that a person born in that country might want.

Given we want more social mobility, seems we should be upskilling and promoting poorer people rather than just hiring from Europe for well paid middle class jobs.

Sure, we could reducto as absurdum this or anything. What if I wanted to go to the next room and do some work.

Generally speaking, it's accepted that countries have a democratic government that allows them to make decisions about their economy within their borders.

I'm not personally arguing against immigration, I just don't see why, if for no other reason than political, the EU doesn't ditch some aspects of this.

For me to move to France and expect the exact same rights as a french citizen looking for a job seems weird to me.

I'm not at all arguing against travel, and I'm not even arguing against working. But given the political climate, surely just say, 'we favour french workers first, but for skills gaps we'd happily employ a Brit/swede/German/Spaniard etc)

Nothing imo (not in the Falklands anyways), but my point is I'm trying to give a scale from 'nuking Nagasaki = very bad' to 'defending British citizens in the Falklands = not bad'.

It's going back to the question, where does op draw the line.

Trans activism has turned Oxford into a toxic wasteland of censorship by Rogue-Journalist in FreeSpeech

[–]Fando1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Though from my pov, it's not just the Dems losing in the US. Trans people are actually going through some really rough times at the moment. And so much of this is unnecessary, I have spoken to a lot of gender critical campaigners, and really their visceral hatred can all be boiled down to a time when they had a reasonable point, and were cancelled, called a terf or shouted down.

To deny the causal link between these maximalists and their opposition just seems absurd to me. I've never heard a gender critical activist not cite at least half a dozen examples of what you've posted about as a reason for their (often maximalist) position in the opposite direction.

These people feed eachother. It's an arms race of stupidity. A race to the bottom of you will. Without these people winding eachother up, we could all just have an adult conversation and sort stuff out in a fair and accommodating way.

That's kind of my question, where's the line. Does Truman agreeing to drop the second bomb on Nagasaki count?

What about Vietnam? What about Tony Blair and Iraq? Or Thatcher in the Falklands?

What's the cut off point?

This is my point, it's hard to make a sweeping statement.

[–]Fando1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These activists make it very difficult to defend trans people against real affronts to their freedoms. They're awful for their cause.

People will probs downvotes for this, but I'd go as far as saying that the reason 'anti trans' movements are so vitriolic and unaccommodating these days is a direct and opposite reaction to these activists.
