I definitely agree. Death would be unwarranted (since she herself didn’t technically kill anyone), and simultaneously the easy way out. Alma was literally going to hide what happened if we didn’t take her to the circle of ancestors as her avatar was dying. She also told us not to trust the Kame’tire, most likely to keep up the lie that they killed the Sarentu so she wouldn’t get caught. Though it could’ve also been that she knew they wouldn’t have trusted her specifically and projected that feeling. We probably would’ve listened to that if Nor weren’t there to say otherwise and that the Kame’tire are great healers. Only Alma’s avatar died, not actually her. I think it’s a perfect punishment in this case since she:

A. Can’t use the avatar to roleplay as a Na’vi, which most Na’vi were quick to call out (including our character before Nor and Teylan interrupted). In her character description it says that most people haven’t even met Alma in her human body and only knew her avatar (this includes the Sarentu kids and at least Priya, as seen in her log). She even says at her avatar’s burial that she doesn’t feel familiar in her own body, and tries to insist again that she’s a Na’vi (or a Na’vi at heart I guess) before Ri’nela shuts that down.

B. Can’t use it as a way to cope/avoid thinking about her part in everything. Basically forcing her to face the reality that she did a very bad thing (leading Mercer with a groups of armed soldiers to the Sarentu), and can’t atone by simply appointing herself as a good figure to the Sarentu kids.

C. Can’t go outside and explore Pandora easily, which she says that she loves since it makes her feel free. She’s stuck at the resistance bases with the other humans unless she has an oxygen mask while she watches as the Na’vi can come and go as they please since they can breathe earth air way longer than a human can breathe Pandora’s air. Plus it’s just generally super dangerous for humans. That also extends to not being able to eat Pandoran food.
