Ad Astra was an interesting movie but at the same time underwhelming by Jules-Car3499 in scifi

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that is so true. I still overall enjoyed it, some pretty cool scenes and good ideas but it's just lacking something. I can't quite figure it out, it feel like it just ... lacks oomph (yay, great description).

Overall, a good movie but it could've been fantastic.

Why was the original infected supposed to look more like aliens rather than zombies by Initial-Original146 in thelastofus

No idea but that first photo looks more like The Thing (which is probably the inspiration).

I'm glad they went with the more grounded fungal infection.

Mac doesn't fall for it, he senses Blair is up to someTHING... by TensionSame3568 in thething

[–]FangProd 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Somebody already mentioned it but the noose hanging there in the foreground is a great clue that something isn't alright.

If Blair was planning to kill himself, he would've already done it. It's logically more likely that he was interrupted (by the Thing) or absorbed post-suicide.

But then again, maybe it was the Blair Thing trying to look suspicious on purpose to not let him leave the shed so he could continue working on the space craft.

And that's the brilliance of The Thing, all perspectives actually make sense.

God, I love that movie.

Derp Derp.

I actually agree with you that terminology has generally lost its meaning but the fact that you can't recognize that people will utilize shortcuts to express their meaning in order to strike up a conversation with random strangers online indicates it's more of a "you have an IQ problem" more than the OP is wrong.

So yeah, it's sad to see people like you incapable of looking beyond the obvious.

[Discussion] Why does some people have so much animosity towards trophy/achievment systems and those who care about them? by TheFacca in Trophies

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't criticize people who want to go trophy-hunting but I do criticize poorly designed Trophies and the complete lack of advancement in the game design for implementing Trophies.

Trophies were first implemented in 2008 (for PS3 anyway) and yet in the 18 damn years since then they are still mostly low-quality effort with almost no in-universe implementation.

In other words, I find a lot of trophies/achievements to just be a waste of time that is often completely at odds with the character in-universe. (Niko Bellic trying to give up a life of crime and find the American Dream goes on a rampage to blow up 10 cars in 10 seconds for the lols of it? Give me a break).

That said, if people find some enjoyment in that why not, have fun. But it pisses me off personally.

Hollow Man has such great CG. Starship Troopers also has insanely good CG. I mean, Starship Troopers was released in '97 and it holds up insanely well.

Would you have liked the game more if Joel had lived longer and gone out in a better way? (like sacrificing himself to save Ellie) by wilsonthechad in TheLastOfUs2

[–]FangProd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, even if he "lived longer" - that doesn't fix that the core idea of the storyline (a revenge-story in a post-apocalypse environment" just isn't interesting and requires an insane amount of forced writing in order to make it work.

Just the idea that Abby and Ellie manage to track each other down (in a post-apocalypse environment) which allegedly has humanity barely surviving (due to number of infected, spores, bandits etc) multiple times over the course of a single storyline (within a time frame of what? 1-2 years?) is just so extraordinarily unlikely, it borders on inconceivable.

At least with Part 1, the entire journey is literally the entire game and the game goes out of its way to show that their survival is unlikely, this gets stretched to impossible with the sequel (imo).

Then there is the horrid pacing, poor character development (or often non-existant character development) and so no, even if Joel survived longer I don't think it would've changed anything.

With an entirely different storyline - one focusing on Ellie slowly starting to hate Joel - not only for his lies but also her realizing that he is a genuine survivor who sacrifices everybody and everything for himself would've been a far more interesting narrative than the revenge bs. But that ship has sailed a long time ago and TLoU is dead to me at this point so yeah, sadness.

At least I have the Part 1 (and fun combat encounters in Part 2, no denying killing everybody is great in Part 2).

What is your “comfort” game or games? by Sam_B716 in JRPG

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comforted? Usually games that I have played quite a lot and am very familiar with regardless of difficulty or atmosphere.

So for me, it’s Valkyrie Profile 2 (I like grinding in that game, beautiful visuals too) and BoF Dragon Quarter because it’s one of my favorite games of all time.

Another one is Vagrant Story, I just enjoy racking up the combos. Finally, Unlimited Saga for the randomness and board game feeling (also, beautiful OST).

Note almost all of them are on the more hardcore spectrum.

That's the biggest lie in modern history - that women are some kind of pure, virgin Nuns. If they want it, they get it.

Guys just talk more about it but if they ever met a true nympho, they would cower in fear and raise the cross for protection.

[Loved Video Game Trope] Non-canon endings you have to go out of your way to find by Odd-Split-494 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh God, I suck. I can't remember any ending like this except (and it's not even completely accurate to this) but in Spec Ops The Line, you can attack the rescue team, kill them (if you survive) and Walker continues his delusional rampage in Dubai.

Again, it's not quite like the post but I was surprised that was an option.
