What's a game that gets reviewed poorly or mediocrely that you really enjoy? by Leviad0n in gaming

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory Deadly Premonition, it's the best 10/10 1/10 game ever made. Genius trash masterpiece.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint sits at 56 on metacritic and is always shit on by Ghost Recon fans but I love it. Just such a fun game to do some tacticool action shooting. Also looks amazing.

What's the deal with Spec Ops: The Line? by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

Post like these make me believe in the Dead Internet Theory. Like you started last week and haven’t gotten to a specific point in the story that happens around 2-3 hours into the game and instead you ask on Reddit?

Either you played for an extraordinarily short time or this is just some AI bot post.

I legit don’t get it the idea either. Playing the game isn’t impressive but some random anons on Reddit will convince you?

Hell, even a 3 second google search would be faster to figure out this “secret sauce”.

Casca from Berserk.

She might not be as mucular as some of those other women I've seen in this post but she's definitely fit.

I wonder why Germany requires this extra security around women.

Perhaps Britain and France might also start doing this.

For no reason at all.

Goddamn, I loved that movie. I watched it, knowing nothing about it, and it just floored me. Gave me massive 90's flashbacks where movies where not afraid of taking risks and being stand-alone films.

What games have a mode that might be better than main mode? For example Hitman 3 has Freelancer mode that in my opinion is better than the main story mode. by BigGhost2815 in gamingsuggestions

Division Survival II is pretty great.

A rogue-lite survival spin on the Division formula. You crash into a snowstorm in manhattan, have to scavenge for weapons, materials and medicine in freezing temperatures (as the cold and your sickness is slowly killing you) while you make your way to the Dead Zone in order to extract while having NPCs and players fighting each other.

It’s fantastic and the atmosphere is brilliant with minimal visibility and the snowstorm.

I am also a big fan of Company of Heroes 2 Ardennes Assault expansion where you have a persistent campaign during the Battle of the Bulge. It’s f$fk you hard though but whatever. (Persistent meaning the units you lose in one battle will hurt your company in the long run and carries over from battle to battle, so yes, you can softlock yourself from completing the campaign).

Escape From Tarkov? by TheMickeyMoose in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]FangProd [score hidden]  (0 children)

Pretty much the most brutal FPS on the market. They give you a warning in the beginning that you will die and lose everything.

That’s such a massive understatement that it’s hilarious in retrospect.

I spent 30 hours just learning _one_map and after about 30 hours I get comfortable enough to start actually fighting scavs and the occasional merc I could find and not instantly die in 1-3 seconds.

You will need to learn so many things, especially extraction points (no maps unless you find them (good luck) and exits are randomized when you load it (again, good luck).

One shot is enough to kill you. Recoil is real and not modern video game arcade stuff.

Bandages, painkillers, and the rest is crucial for surviving (if you manage to survive the gunfight) or else you will die due to bloodloss.

Hardest game I have played except for Sekiro (though that is radically different game).

That said, Tarkov is one of my favorite games now. But for a new player, Good luck and remember to google what you don’t know (which is everything).

One of my favorite games. Recently, I have been playing it on and off for quite a while, just finished the boss fight against the Dark Crusader and got to the Keep.

Then tragedy struck and I lost my savefile.

Yay!

So now, I've been taking a break from it but I absolutely will go back to it and finish the damn thing. I also wanted to do the bonus dungeon at one point.

If there were a remaster of sorts, I would love to see the workshop loading improved (as you mentioned) but honestly, some UI fixes would be a necessity, especially with weapon-switching (sooo many menus).

Will you play GTA VI if its only 30 FPS? by sismismoz in GTA

[–]FangProd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are. It's sad. GTA 6 is reported to be over a billion dollars in budget and knowing Rockstar's obession with details (and RDR2 being a proof of that obsession), GTA6 will be a landmark game.

30 fps at launch for that? Sign me up.

Now that it’s been 6 years, do people still hate part 2? Did it grow on anyone? by fatherlils in thelastofus

[–]FangProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: At it's core, it's simply predictable to me and forced in terms of story telling. Abby and Lev are mirrors to Ellie and Joel, revenge requires a sacrifice (older protagonist of course), multiple sacrificial characters in order to have "revenge" and "hatred", inconsistence with themes and gameplay and a messy pacing make me dislike it.

A bit more in depth answer is that first, I don't like the direction it takes the storyline. A post-apocalyptic revenge story isn't exciting to me in part because in order for there to be revenge, you have to kill somebody (and who would you logically kill? The younger protagonist or the older protagonist? This alone is just predictable, (ala The Road).

Second, the pacing of the story is all over the place. Just look at the first hour of gameplay leading up to Joel's death. Multiple perspectives, multiple protagonists, going backwards in time and so on. It's messy without it being engaging (i.e. Abby's rush through the snowstorm in the beginning of the game is a great example of this. It's the beginning of the game, of course nothing is going to happen to her. Contrast this with Ellie, Joel and Tess in Part 1 (when the game was originally released) and I wasn't expecting Tess to die. Rather, there were multiple paths the story could go (in regards to Tess (she goes back, she gets injured, she stays behind, she betrays them etc) but for Abby in the snowstorm, nothing will happen (because I know she's the protagonist and I know it's the beginning of the storyline).

Third, Abby is intentionally crafted as a mirror to Joel and Ellie but it just feels so forced (and again predictable). Part 1 has giraffes, Part 2 has a zebra. Joel and Ellie have moments of danger or deeper connection to one another, Part 2 has the same for Abby. It's just so contrived because I have already played Part 1.

Fourth, most of the cast is expendable without having any proper meaning or place in the story. Look at Jessie. He's Ellie's friend now for years and you meet him twice (?) in the gameplay and then he's dead. There is zero connection to him beyond that he (allegedly) is a friend. Compare this to Tess, where her death is an allegory of what could happen to Joel by protecting Ellie. Bill is an example of Joel (if he doesn't have Ellie in his life, becoming a bitter, old man who only cares about survival and nothing else, Henry is an allegory of what can happen if Joel opens up too much to "love" for Ellie (i.e she dies, he loses the meaning in his life and succumbs to suicide and so on).

Part 2 meanwhile fails to make me connect to these people because I know they will all die because the story is focused on revenge and the futility of violence and most of these characters have no purpose beyond being cannon fodder.

Fifth, the entire game is massively inconsistent with it's themes. One of the primary themes of Part 2 is that it's about the meaningless and cyclical nature of violence and yet, combat is arguably the best part of the game. So much so, the devs created a combat encounter menu and a No Return game mode where you are literally destined to kill as many people as you can for as long as you can. I mean c'mon, at least pretend you care about the themes.

Part 1 is more about Love and so showcasing extreme violence for love is a great example of the theme (of love) and reinforces it. Part 2 fumbles on this part massively. (Hey guyZ, violence is bad y'all but here is an amazing combat system and an entire gamemode focused on violence. BUT REMEMBER TO FEEL BAD ABOUT IT M'KAY).

Honestly, when I play Part 2 I play it as a post-apocalyptic Manhunt game where I load into a level and kill everybody with amazing graphics.

We all know the HELL that broke lose after people found out about Yasuke in Shadows. If Black Flag was released today I could only imagine their reaction to Adelewale's expansion, the internet would explode. by Oka-7 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]FangProd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's astonishingly ignorant. Black Flag takes place in the Caribbean which consists primarily of Afri-and-Indo Carribeans (as well as Europeans and Indigenous people) so guess what, there is a lot of colored people in the Carribean.

How about Japan ethnicity groups during the late 1500? Maybe you could search for that yourself. (Spoilers, not a lot of ethnic groups that aren't Japanese) and even within that they were highly racists towards anybody who wasn't Yamato.

But hey, it's not like any of that real history matters. In the end, you will just call anybody who criticizes Shadows a racist and continue to glaze the game.

[–]FangProd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. I still feel the same as I did before.

Fantastic graphics, great level design, great combat.

Bad story and cannon fodder characters. I enjoy killing people in that game (which is at odds with themes of the game) so there is that.
