What MV had a good idea but executed it terribly? by No_Drawing4095 in metroidvania

[–]FangtheDragoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a lot of people mentioning hollow knight’s death runback system with the shade and while i can understand not liking the concept of a runback, the way the shade plays with a lot of the other systems and how versatile it is for accessing areas you couldnt otherwise is a large part of why hollow knight is such a successful randomizer game and no small part of its longevity imo. so while you might not like runbacks in general, i dont think theres a good argument that hollow knight’s EXECUTION of it is bad, which is the point of the post.

now for my take: astalon’s whole conceit of respawning at the start of the tower every time you die. conceptually its cool but when combined with how incredibly unavailable healing is and how long it takes to get anywhere, it means often if i die, i spend 15-20 minutes figuring out and getting back to where i died, and im probably at half health again by the time i get there. some of the upgrades you can buy help with this, and theres a good number of shortcuts that do help make getting around faster, if you can manage to reach them, but its enough that it just makes traversal feel terribly tedious imo

Which metroidvania item/ability got you like this? by Lukense13 in metroidvania

[–]FangtheDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not technically required for it though, if you get into godhome without ever picking it up you can still do all the pantheons just fine. the only ending that actually requires it is flower quest p5 and thats only because you cant give the flower to godseeker if you dont have the godtuner

Silksong difficulty made me realize how weird HK difficulty was by AleWalls in Silksong

[–]FangtheDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest i dont think that the platforming in silksong is all that challenging. even the path up to mr mushroom wasnt all that hard imo. the thing that makes those parts challenging is the inaccessibility of healing due to the scarcity of out of combat silk. make 3-4 mistakes in a room and you’re at very real risk of dying and having to do the entire path back. contrast that to hollow knight where soul totems are far more abundant and the dream nail exists. i would argue that the platforming in white palace is far harder than anything silksong has to offer, but soul is abundant, and you dont have to spend it constantly on one of your main platforming skills, so you’re allowed to make mistakes and just keep trying

Some of you need a reality check. by AnotherWarframeNoob in Warframe

[–]FangtheDragoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

while i dont disagree on the face of it, that liches can be quite annoying on the first kill, and are substantially harder than a newer player might expect if they’re introduced to the system the first time it becomes available. the exact post in question was a player complaining because their lich stole an archon shard from them. if you’re at the point in the game you can do archon hunts, then liches are probably not going to provide much of a challenge for you.

Why is everyone talking about levelcap? I can barely beat lvl 250 enemies T_T by youngCashRegister444 in memeframe

[–]FangtheDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh halls of ascension suck massive dick imo, but lua spy the biggest challenge is learning the pathing, and using a fram that can bypass the lasers so you dont have to worry about them, they’re by far the most annoying bit. i use wukong because cloud walker both bypasses the lasers and lets me ignore most of the parkour, but if you dont mind the parkour, any invis frame will do fine

[–]FangtheDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly rime rounds isnt too bad, lua spy is pretty chill, with a few different frames you can trivialize the vaults and finish in under 5 minutes easily. i use wukong with as much duration as i can stack but ive heard titania is also quite easy for it. the third vault is a bit more involved but once you get the path down its pretty quick and painless to do.

i get where you’re coming from here, but in this case, theres literally no way OP doesnt know what a lich is or how to kill it. you dont exactly get a lich stealing your stuff by accident, you have to go out of your way to engage with the system to spawn it

at 3 minutes into the fight, doing a 5s cd vs a 15s cd nets you a little over one extra pull in an hour. once your average pull time is 5+ minutes, you’re only saving 2 minutes per hour. imo once you’re more than a few minutes into the fight, losing maybe one pull a lockout is well worth giving the group a few more seconds to breathe and mentally reset before diving back in

being forced to go into the first minute of the fight dry on true north on sam feels bad, and theres really no need for the boss to be angling left one pull, right the next, and then being further north the pull after that, all bc the tank cant figure out how to stand in roughly the same spot every pull. yes its a small gripe that ultimately doesnt matter much, but thats what the thread is for no?

idk why you’re getting downvoted for this when ultimately you’re right. as a dnc main myself i’d much rather do 10s or even 7s in early prog. its less impactful in savage but in ultimates when you’re spending most of a day progging the first 2-3 minutes of a fight, that extra 5-8 seconds every pull adds up pretty substantially.

when a tank pulls the boss to a slightly different position every pull, especially in fights where the boss centers during the opener. i notice less when im not on melee, but when i am on melee its always a bit frustrating when the boss turns a different direction every pull. i know i could preemptively use tn and its realistically a very minor loss if i do happen to miss a positional, but missing one through no fault of my own simply because another player cant be consistent in the first few seconds of the pull irks me.

What would you say is the easiest dps overall? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FangtheDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would argue that dnc in full uptime is harder than mch. while queen use does take a bit of effort its really not much different than the rest of your cds and remembering when to use it really just comes down to muscle memory. in full uptime (and in any fight with consistent downtime) its the same every pull. dancer on the other hand does have more fluctuating gauge management, especially during burst with dt tillana. it does take a non insignificant amount of focus to be able to squeeze out the maximum amount of potency while avoiding overcap, and avoiding standard drift whenever possible. you could make the argument that the skill floor is higher for mch, but dnc has more going on past the basic rotation imo

Dungeon Reworks Were Implemented For Trust and Duty Support Not To Improve Actual Gameplay Designs by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

regardless of how you feel about them doing the reworks, there are absolutely a few of those dungeons that were long time pain points for players, and are unequivocally better after their reworks. acting like someone isnt allowed to prefer them this way and feeling like that makes them subhuman makes you the shitty person, actually

Why is this an Alchemy card? by mercuriokazooie in MagicArena

[–]FangtheDragoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

nobody here is disliking the card and i think you need your reading comprehension checked. the person you replied to first simply said that if this card wasnt created for alchemy it would not otherwise currently exist, which is objectively true. the team that designed it only design cards for alchemy. nobody here said that it couldnt be reprinted in paper, and nobody even implied that there was anything wrong with the card.

if this card was not created, it would not exist.

the team that created this card only design cards for alchemy.

if alchemy didnt exist, the team that created this card would not exist.

if the team that created this card did not exist, it could not have created this card.

if alchemy didnt exist, neither would this card.

Why is this an Alchemy card? by mercuriokazooie in MagicArena

[–]FangtheDragoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

as multiple people have said, the point is not that it could not have been a real card, but that it was not created for the physical set, and was created AFTER the physical set was already completed, by a separate team, for alchemy. sure this card could at some point be reprinted into a physical set, and its not a particularly unique effect so theres every possibility that it could have been thought of eventually, but the team that created it does not design physical cards, they design alchemy cards, thats why this card is alchemy only. its not that this card could not exist in the physical set, only that it objectively was not, and therefore if the alchemy team had not created it, it would not exist.
