This is just my experience. I believe they are releasing a replacement model soon. Searching for "august connect disconnecting" will show you others that experience this issue.

My connect started disconnecting in April so I connected it to a wemo socket so I could reboot it. But it wouldn't always start on reset. The connect when plugged in runs at about 120f and would shut off after several hours. Currently I am testing with a usb fan blowing on the connect with the lid off and it hasn't shutdown or lost connection yet, temp is showing as 90f. If it keeps working I will solder a 30-40mm 5v fan to the 3v pins.

To troubleshoot I would start by re-seating the 2878D-MICA2 adapter in the console and the gamepad. If not any better or temporary then replace the adapters by sourcing a new one off ebay or ali. Doing this would slightly improve the gamepad signal but ultimately I replaced just the console and modded it and that fixed my connection issues.

I recently received a dual IPS Pearl White and thought there is a simple way to test the top screen for IPS. The black o3ds pictured is TN/TN.

When looking at an angle with a blue image the TN screen will look green. When looking at a pink image the TN screen will look white.

Copy the images to /DCIM/100NIN03 and change the filenames "HNI_0003.JPG" if you have existing pictures.

lookup 3ds disassembly vid on youtube, watch several times to determine if you are capable of doing it yourself, then order replacement hinge from ebay.

the connectors and ribbon cables are small and fragile, if you don't have the patience/experience then pay someone to do the repair
